Strong Sunday Effort Leads Lehigh To Two Runner-Up Finishes at Knecht Cup
4/16/2023 4:10:00 PM | Men's Rowing
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Both Lehigh Varsity Eight boats claimed runner-up finishes in petite finals as the Lehigh men's rowing team completed the two-day Knecht Cup Sunday on the Cooper River.
Â
"The team channeled the energy of a big stage in a positive direction," said Steven J. '69 & Karen A. Lee Head Rowing Coach Peter Costas. "The desire and competitiveness has been there for us this season, but today was a great step in letting it fuel aggressive racing instead of acting as a burden."
Â
The Second Varsity Eight finished fourth in its heat Saturday with a time of 6:33.71. The Mountain Hawks posted a time of 6:24.16 in the petite final to finish second in the race. George Washington's B boat won the race at 6:13.42. Lehigh finished ahead of Army, Marietta, George Washington A and Fairfield.
Â
"The 2v set a great tone with their piece," Costas said. "Schuyler steered a great course for them and they delivered their most complete race of the year to this point. Very excited for what's possible going forward."
