Hottinger Named Player of the Year, Three Land on All-League Teams
3/3/2023 11:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball's Frannie Hottinger was named the Patriot League Player of the Year, as announced Friday morning. Hottinger, Mackenzie Kramer and Lily Fandre were also named to all-league teams, with Kramer and Hottinger being named to the first team and Fandre picking up all-rookie honors.
"What a season for Frannie, Kenz and Lily," said head coach Addie Micir. "The three of them have been steady forces for us all year. Each of them bought into her role on our team with everything she had. Having their individual efforts be acknowledged is both fitting and well-deserved. Congrats to all three of these great teammates and to their fellow teammates who were instrumental in them achieving these honors."
Hottinger is Lehigh's first Player of the Year since 2011, when Erica Prosser won her second Player of the Year award.
Hottinger has put together one of the most illustrious seasons in program history. She has scored the most points in a season (593) and is just one of 10 players in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point and 500 rebound mark. The senior is also one of two players to ever achieve Patriot League Player of the Week seven times in a season. She's currently averaging 20.4 points per game and 9.6 rebounds.
The Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota native is 13th in the nation in points (593), 17th in points per game, 31st in rebounding and ranks 15th in the nation in double-doubles (15).
This is Hotitnger's second time being on an all-league team. She earned second team All-Patriot League honors in 2021.
"Frannie played, as a senior should, so relentlessly all year," Micir said. "She was determined, focused, and selfless. She cared about winning and did everything in her power to help us get there. Frannie's record-breaking year was no surprise to all of us as we've watched her work each step along the way. Though we're not surprised, we are definitely so happy for her and so proud of her.
This is Kramer's third season being on an all-league team. In her first year, she was named to the all-rookie team. Kramer backed that up with an impressive sophomore campaign, earning second-team all-league honors. Kramer has once again put together a phenomenal season. Kramer scored her 1,000th point earlier this season against Navy. Kramer is second in the league in scoring (17.3).
The junior ranks 11th in the nation in three-point percentage (43.5%). She also is first in the league in three-point percentage and three-pointers made per game (2.7). Kramer has scored 1,082 points in career games played.
"All year Kenz has been clutch," Micir added. "Big time players make big time plays in the big time games. And she stepped up each and every time we needed her, and her number was called. Kenzie proved to everyone that she is more than just a scorer by working and improving at all other phases of her game. We're excited for her to get the First-Team nod, as she is so deserving of it! Both she and Frannie have led the way for us since day one. "
Hottinger and Kramer were both named to the preseason All-Patriot League team. This is the first time that Lehigh has had two players named first team All-Patriot League since 2010 when Prosser and Emily Gratch were recognized.
Fandre has had an impressive rookie campaign, appearing in all 29 games and making 26 starts. She averages 6.7 points per game and 3.8 rebounds. Fandre is converting her shots at an efficient rate. The Minnesota native holds a 40.3% field goal percentage, and she is 38-of-94 from three-point range.
'We are so excited that Lily got named to the All-Rookie team," Micir said. "She definitely earned it. It would be easy to overlook her contributions to a team with two elite scorers, but we all know what she meant to our team. She was efficient on the offensive end and consistently battled on the defensive end. She got better every game. But the best part of having Lily with us is the unabashed joy she brings each time she steps on the court. Big things ahead for this one. No doubt."
Hottinger, Kramer and Fandre will be back in action on March 6 when the Mountain Hawks host Bucknell in the Patriot League quarterfinals. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-7LU-GAME during business hours.
