The Red Foxes got on the scoreboard first but the Mountain Hawks countered with a run of their own when senior Josie Charles singled through the left side to score classmate Emily Cimino to tie the game at 1-1.
Marist went back in front with a couple of runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. After a scoreless third inning, Lehigh put up a six-run fourth inning. Graduate student Carley Barjaktarovich hit an RBI single to plate sophomore Lindsey Martin to open the scoring and first-year Lily Owens singled to left field to bring home first-year Sydney Parlett. Sophomore Rory Dudley and junior Brooke Cannon each had two-RBI base hits that gave the Mountain Hawks a 7-3 advantage after four innings.
After the Red Foxes got three runs across the plate in the top half of the fifth to cut the lead to just a run, 7-6, Lehigh managed to get three more runs home on a couple of sacrifice flies from Owens and Cimino, and followed that up with a Charles double to left field for a 10-6 lead.
Lehigh allowed Marist to score two runs in the sixth, which cut the lead down to two runs, 10-8 and one more run was scored in the top of the seventh to put the Red Foxes down by one, 10-9. There were runners on the corners with two outs when the Mountain Hawks turned a double play to end the game and come away with a 10-9 victory.
Sophomore pitcher Maria Urban got the start in the circle and earned the victory, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing six runs on five hits with one strikeout and five walks. First-year Chloe Hess entered in relief and threw 2.1 innings of work to record the save and gave up three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Charles produced three hits this morning, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Dudley and Barjaktarovich both had two hits in the game. Dudley drove in two runs and scored twice with a walk while Barjaktarovich scored twice and had one RBI. Owens and Cannon both had one hit and drove in a pair of runs while Cimino scored a run and plated one. Sophomore Maddy Schmeiser also had a hit on the day while scoring two runs.
Lehigh is back in action on Wednesday, March 22 when they play its first game at home from Leadership Park when they take on Monmouth for a single game starting at 3:30 p.m.
