Mountain Hawks Open Outdoor Track and Field Schedule at Penn Challenge on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh track and field programs open the 2023 Outdoor Track and Field schedule on Saturday morning when they compete at the Penn Challenge, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field.
The Mountain Hawks will be competing against Patriot League programs Army and Bucknell while also going up against Cornell, La Salle, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, Towson, and Villanova. Throwing events will start the day at 11 a.m., out at Irving "Moon" Mondschein Throwing Complex and the first event at Franklin Field begin at 11:30 a.m., with the men's pole vault.

Sprints
For the men's squad, senior Ian Scott and sophomores Mulenga Malama and Skyler Mott will be in the 100-meter dash while Senior Jack Bush and sophomore Patrez Thomas will race in the 200-meter dash. In the 400-meter event, Bush and Thomas will be joined by senior Andrew Roman.

Senior Chae Eun Kim will compete in the 100-meter hurdles as well as the 200-meter dash while first-year Sydney Kusner will run in the 400-meter event and first-year Amber Barrios will compete in the 400-meter hurdles.

Mid-Distance / Distance
Sophomore Athiel Mading will be racing in the 800-meter race while classmate Riley Morrell will take part in the 1,500-meter event. Junior Abigail Tenreiro will be running in the 3,000-meter

Throws
First-year Jen Whipple will be taking part in the discus and the hammer throw for the women while sophomores Liam Lovering and Greg Stagliano will throw in the discus and Lovering and sophomores Ethan McHugh and Sharan Shankar with compete in the hammer throw. Stagliano and sophomore Hunter Rodarmel will open the season by throwing the javelin.

In the high jump, the women will have sophomore Izabel Fronc and first-year Melanie LaCorte both compete in the first flight and senior Avery Roze and sophomore Lauren Roy will take part in the long jump. Roy will also partake in the triple jump and first-year Lena Perlmutter will be in the pole vault.

For the men, senior Brittann Pierce, junior Eli Aaronson and Mott are set to compete in the high jump while Scott, Malama and first-year Daniel Givens will take part in the long jump. First-year Tyson Utesch will participate in the pole vault with Mott and Givens also competing in the triple jump.
