
Mountain Hawks Fall Short to Hofstra

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's tennis team was unable to hold on to its early lead, falling 4-3 to Hofstra inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.Â
The Mountain Hawks opened up the match by dominating doubles play, securing the early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Marc Blekhman and senior Jeremy Learner earned Lehigh's first win of the day, defeating Hofstra's Ostaph Kovalenko and Johnathan Mahrt 6-1 at the No. 1 spot.Â
Lehigh went on to clinch the doubles point with a huge win at the No. 2 spot. Junior Jordan Paul and sophomore Sean Jaeger defeated Hofstra's Matthew Garcia and Vincent Turina 6-3 to give the Mountain Hawks the early lead.Â
Hofstra fought back during singles play, picking up the first singles win of the day at the No. 2 spot. Paul earned his second win of the day at the No. 4 spot, defeating Turina 6-4, 6-2.Â
The Pride showed no signs of backing down as they picked up a second singles win to tie the score at 2-2. Blekhman picked up his second win of the day for the Mountain Hawks, giving Lehigh the 3-2 lead. The sophomore defeated Hofstra's Bo Cautaerts 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. Hofstra went on to win the final two singles matches of the day to secure its fifth win of the season. Â
Lehigh will return to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center and close out the weekend with a Saturday afternoon match against Morgan State. The match will begin at 1 p.m.Â
