Lehigh Hosts American Friday; Celebrates Senior Day on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team looks to bounce back from a loss to Holy Cross last weekend with two home contests this weekend. The Mountain Hawks host American on Friday and celebrate Senior Day on Sunday versus Rider.
 
Lehigh (8-4) ranks third in Patriot League standings, slotted behind Lafayette and first place American.
 
Senior Lotte Smorenburg leads Lehigh with five goals and four assists. Junior goalkeeper Jenny Canoni has played in all 12 games, recording a 0.631 save percentage.

American leads the all-time series 26-1, with Lehigh picking up its lone win with a 2-1 victory over the Eagles in a shootout in the 2022 Patriot League Tournament semifinal. Senior Julia Gatelein scored the game-winning shootout goal to send Lehigh to the championship.
 
The Eagles are 6-6 overall and 3-0 in Patriot League play, earning wins over Bucknell, Lafayette and Colgate. Graduate student Charllene Boshoff leads American with six goals. Senior goalkeeper Bryn Underwood is a mainstay in cage, compiling a 0.807 save percentage and 1.23 goals-against average. Underwood was also named the Preseason Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year. 
 
Sunday's noon matchup versus Rider will be Senior Day for the Mountain Hawks. Abbie Brown, Smorenburg, Julia Gatelein, Emily Mars, Bailee Sunderland and Erica Steele will be honored prior to the game for their commitment and dedication to the program. 
 
Lehigh leads the all-time series 20-18-1, including a 3-0 win over the Broncs in 2021. Rider (5-7) is led by first-year Willemijn Ephraim with four goals and two assists. Graduate student Carli Ciocco also tallies four goals.
 
Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
