Lehigh drops Friday night home game to Saint Joseph's Hawks

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh field hockey returned home to Ulrich Field on Friday evening to take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Lehigh fell to Saint Joseph's 3-0 with The Hawks scoring once in the first quarter before adding two goals in the fourth.
Saint Joseph's opened the scoring with 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Catherine Arentz found the back of the cage off an assist from Erika Culp. Lehigh senior goalkeeper Kate Burgess made five saves in the opening quarter to keep the Mountain Hawks within one. Burgess kept the Mountain Hawks in the game with 11 total saves providing a strong defensive effort. Lehigh kept Saint Joseph's scoreless during the middle two periods with the Hawks adding two goals in the final quarter.
Carly Smith led the way offensively with two shots and Samantha Hillman tallied one for Lehigh. Saint Joseph's outshot Lehigh 23-3 and held a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Mountain Hawks return to Ulrich Field on Sunday, September 13 at 12 p.m. to take on Villanova.
