PHILADELPHIA - Lehigh men's soccer suffered a 4-0 loss to Drexel Tuesday evening at Vidas Field. Drexel scored 23 minutes into the match, and the Dragons didn't take their foot off the gas for the remainder of the match.Â
"We left a handful of starters home to rest up to nurse some injuries, take care of some exams and to get ready for the weekend - we were pretty much without four or five starters," said head coach Dean Koski. "This was a good opportunity for some of our guys who haven't played a whole lot to get a lot of minutes."
Athananios Cosse and Jax Adkins both made their second starts this season.Â
Lehigh is now 2-7-4, and Drexel is 6-1-4 after extending its unbeaten streak to eight games.Â
"The result doesn't reflect the effort," Koski said. "I thought the effort for a good handful of our guys over the course of 90 minutes was good. They worked hard and competed. At times, we just made our own mistakes that resulted in goals… We learned some good things about some of our younger players, so that's always helpful for the future. All and all, disappointing to lose a midweek matchup by four goals, but to do it with half of your starters out is still okay."
Â
The Dragons scored two goals each half. All four goals were scored by four different players. Â
Antonio Illuminato opened the scoring for the Dragons in the 23rd minute after Illuminato was able to slide it right past Lehigh's backline.Â
Drexel doubled the scoring right before the half as Harrison Coron found an open Yassine Elkahloun in the 44th minute. The Dragons would not stop there as they would go on to score two more goals.Â
Matthew Aitchison fouled a Drexel player in the box, and the Dragons were granted a penalty kick in the 64th minute. Stephen Appiah converted the penalty kick to give Drexel the 3-0 lead.Â
Charles Aierbech scored the fourth and final goal of the game in the 78th minute.Â
Lehigh struggled to generate offensive chances on Tuesday. Drexel outshot Lehigh 23-4.The Mountain Hawks had just one shot in the first half.Â
Emmett Shea had a team-high of two shots for the Mountain Hawks.
The Dragons were awarded 10 corner kicks, while Lehigh had 0 corner kicks.Â
Tommy Chyzowych got the start in net for the first half, making six saves. Ryan Gross came in in the second half and was credited with one save.Â
Drexel's Goalkeeper Raphael Bartell did not have to make any saves.Â
Lehigh returns home to the Ullrich Sports Complex on Saturday at 6 p.m. for a matchup with Loyola.Â
