Mountain Hawks Fall To No. 25 Notre Dame In Final Game At Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – In its final game of the Liberty Invitational, Lehigh fell to No. 25 Notre Dame 9-0 in five innings Sunday at the Liberty Softball Stadium. The Fighting Irish scored in all four of their times at bat, while Lehigh's best scoring opportunity of the day came up empty.
The Mountain Hawks finished 1-4 at the Liberty Invitational and are now 3-7 on the season. All four setbacks came against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2021.
Lehigh finished with four hits, all singles. Senior Carley Barjaktarovich, junior Emily Cimino and first-years Rory Dudley and Hanna Aldrich delivered the Mountain Hawks' hits. The Mountain Hawks' best scoring opportunity came in the top of the fourth inning as Lehigh loaded the bases with no outs on a hit batter and two singles.
Notre Dame's Shannon Becker worked out of the jam with by inducing a fielder's choice and two ground outs.
The Fighting Irish (15-4) scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth.
Leea Hanks went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Karina Gaskins added two hits, including a two-run home run, and four RBIs.
Sophomore Katelyn Young started in the circle for Lehigh and allowed four runs on three hits over 1.2 innings. First-year Maria Urban went the final 2.1 innings and was charged with five runs.
Lehigh will return to Virginia next weekend for the JMU Classic, Mar. 11-13 in Harrisonburg, Va. The Mountain Hawks will face Arkansas twice, in addition to Maryland and host James Madison.
