
Pineda, Holland Post Top 10 Finishes As Lehigh Finishes Fifth at Bright's Creek

MILL SPRING, N.C. – First-year Madison Pineda led the way with a sixth place finish as the Lehigh women's golf team opened up its spring season at Gardner-Webb's Bright's Creek Invitational. The Mountain Hawks finished up their second round, which was suspended Saturday due to darkness, by shooting 309, 20 strokes better than their round one score. Sunday's scheduled final round was canceled due to poor weather conditions, leaving Lehigh fifth out of seven teams with a final score of 638.
Pineda delivered the two of the three lowest rounds of the weekend for the Mountain Hawks, following an opening round 76 with a second round 75 to finish sixth at 151. She made 25 pars and added two birdies over her 36 holes, covering the two days.
Sophomore Sophie Holland also posted a top 10 finish, taking 10th place at 154 (77-77). Holland carded a team-best three birdies on the weekend.
Junior Hannah Foster moved into the individual top 20, following an opening round 85 with a 76 to finish in 18th place at 161.
Sophomore Sophia Taverna enjoyed an 11 shot improvement from round one to round two, going from a 92 to an 81 and tying for 34th place at 173.
Junior Iris Shin tied for 37th place at 180 (91-89).
Jacksonville State captured the team title at 603 (296-307), with the Gamecocks besting host Gardner-Webb by nine strokes.
Quinnipiac's Leeyen Peralta and Winthrop's Emilie Marie Marceliussen-Dahl shared medalist honors at two over par 146.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be the SHU Spring Invitational, March 11-12 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
