Ryan Kuldanek's game-winner lifts Lehigh over Lafayette

10/8/2022 10:22:00 PM | Men's Soccer

EASTON, Pa- It was a back-and-forth defensive battle between Lehigh and Lafayette men's soccer Saturday night in Easton for the majority of the game until freshman Ryan Kuldanek found the back of the net to give Lehigh a 1-0 win with two minutes to go.

"I've been working on it at practice," Kuldanek said. "I just remember going to the corner flag, and everyone was with me. That was probably the best moment of my life, to be honest with you."

That was Kuldanek's first collegiate goal and Euan Forrest's first assist of the year.

This is Lehigh's second straight win over Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks improved to 3-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in league play, while Lafayette fell to 7-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. This was also the Mountain Hawk's first win since Sept. 20 against Delaware.

"I thought we followed the game plan the way we trained for the week," said head coach Dean Koski. "Lafayette's always a really good team and a really tough place to get three points, so I'm happy for the guys and proud of them."

Freshman goalkeeper Tommy Chyzowych started his first game since Sept. 6 against La Salle. Chyzowych made four saves, and he had a huge presence all over the field tonight.

"Tommy's a really good goalkeeper and his size certainly helped us," Koski said. "They're good at getting in the box on long throw-ins and corner kicks and he did what we wanted him to do today. I'm really happy for him and our backs, who I thought played really well."

Senior Jack Sarkos had one of only two shots in the first half, which was saved by Alex Sutton, who was the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week last week. That was Sutton's first and only save of the game.

Lafayette had a couple of opportunities at the end that went off the post, but they just couldn't find the back of the net.

The Mountain Hawks will look to carry this momentum when they take on West Virginia on the Mountaineers' home turf at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 11. The broadcast will stream on ESPN+.

"We're looking forward to a road trip to go out there and play one of the best teams in the country, but one game at a time," Koski said.
