Lehigh Falls 1-0 in Tough Battle with BU

BOSTON, Mass. - A strong defensive effort between Lehigh and Boston University led to a scoreless 80 minutes of play before the Terriers scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute. The Lehigh women's soccer team falls to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2 in league play after falling to the Terriers, 1-0 in Boston on Saturday afternoon.
Lehigh opened up the game with a shot from senior Mattie Murphy in the sixth minute. The Mountain Hawks and the Terriers battled for the next 15 minutes before Boston University put up two shots in two minutes.
With the score tied at 0-0, both teams entered the second half searching for a goal. Junior Alex Odle had the first shot of the second half that went just wide of the net. First-year Sophia Lis added two more shots for Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks continued to struggle to find the back of the net.
In the 78th minute sophomore Corinne Lyght had a strong run through the BU defense, but her shot hit the side netting.
In the 82nd minute, Boston University's Amy Thompson scored the decisive goal for the Terriers.
The Terriers led the Mountain Hawks 10-6 in shots on Saturday. First-year goalkeeper Maggie Ousouljoglou tallied four saves for Lehigh while Boston University goalkeepers Gretchen Bennett and Celia Braun each recorded one save.
Lehigh will return to Bethlehem to prepare for its fifth league match of the season. The Mountain Hawks will host Navy on Friday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
