MTEN defeats Bucknell in regular season finale

LEWISBURG, Pa. – In its final competition of the regular season, the Lehigh men's tennis team (4-2, 3-2) gained momentum heading into the postseason by defeating the Bucknell Bison on Saturday afternoon by a 4-3 score. The Mountain Hawks' win snapped their two-match skid. Lehigh's last win was at Colgate on March 27.
The Brown and White got off to a rocky start on Saturday by falling behind early after the Bison took the doubles point. At the No. 3 spot, Jeremy Learner and Matt Kleiman notched the lone doubles win by securing a 6-4 victory over their opponents. The No. 1 (Zack Elliott and Harry Wang) and No. 2 (Gary Fishkin and Jacob Edelchik) pairs both dropped lost their matches by a 6-2 score.
Despite losing the doubles point, Lehigh showed grit and determination by coming from behind and taking four wins in singles to win the match. Freshman Jordan Paul shined on the day be dominating his opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Kleiman earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory in straight sets over his opponent. The senior Wang gutted out a three-setter on Saturday against his opponent. After taking the first set and dropping the second, Wang bested his opponent and took the third set and won the match 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. At the No. 1 spot, the junior Elliott won his match after his opponent defaulted in the third set.
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will head into the postseason. The Patriot League Championships will be hosted by Lehigh on the Ulrich Courts and begin on Thursday, April 22. Stay tuned throughout the week to see what seed and who the Mountain Hawks will be going up against.
