The sweep drops Lehigh to 2-2 on the young season, while Seton Hall improves to 3-5.
Things started well for the Mountain Hawks, who opened up a 5-0 lead after two and a half innings in game one. Junior Carley Barjaktarovich drew a leadoff walk to open the game, stole second, moved to third on a single by freshman Brooke Cannon and then scored on a ground out by Cimino. Chesson followed by blasting a two-run home run to center field, her third of the season. Lehigh tacked on two more in the third on an RBI single by senior Payton Alsobrooks and a double by junior Addie Kittel.
Seton Hall pulled even at 5-5 after scoring a run in the third inning and four in the fourth, capped by a three-run Ally Taylor home run.
Lehigh regained a 6-5 lead as junior Karsen O'Rourke doubled home Alsorooks but Seton Hall used a triple, four walks and two wild pitches to take a 7-6 lead after five. Chesson singled home Barjakarovich to tie the game at 7-7 in the sixth but Seton Hall got a two-run single from Darby Pandolfo to go up 9-7 heading to the seventh.
The Mountain Hawks continued to battle. With the tying runs in scoring position and two outs, Cimino drilled a double to deep right, scoring the tying runs, but Lehigh was unable to push the go-ahead run across.
Seton Hall got a leadoff single in the home seventh and after two wild pitches, Hailey Arteaga brought home the winning run with an infield single.
Junior Gabriella Nori started in the circle and allowed five runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Lehigh used four different pitches, with the Mountain Hawks hampered by six walks and three wild pitches.
Chesson was 3-for-5 with three RBIs in game one, while Barjaktarovich was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Lehigh stole six bases in the opener.
Lehigh could never get its bats going in game two, while Seton Hall plated runs in all four of is times at bat. Pandolfo hit a two-run home run in the first inning and the Pirates added two runs in the second and one in the third before erupting for five runs in the fourth to go up 10-0.
Winning pitcher Kelsey Carr limited Lehigh to back-to-back one-out singles from Cimino and Chesson in the fourth and helped her own cause with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
Freshman Katelyn Young started game two for Lehigh, allowing five runs on five hits over three innings. Young walked three and struck out four.
The Mountain Hawks will be back on the road next Sunday when they visit Saint Joseph's for a doubleheader with first pitch for game one set for noon.
