MERION STATION, Pa. – Lehigh played a pair of tightly-contested games against Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon but the host Hawks came away with a pair of victories at SJU Softball Field. An uncharacteristically tough day for Lehigh's defense saw the Mountain Hawks make five errors, which led to five of the nine runs allowed being unearned. Saint Joseph's won game one 6-3 and then came back in the bottom of the seventh inning to take game two 3-2.

Juniors Carley Barjaktarovich, Jaelynn Chesson and Addie Kittel and freshman Emily Cimino each had three hits in Sunday's twinbill as Lehigh falls to 2-4 on the season.

Game one saw Lehigh take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Barjaktarovich led off with a single and eventually came around to score on a double down the right field line by Chesson.

Saint Joseph's (5-5) answered with two unearned runs in the bottom of the third on a Jessica Gaughan two-run double. A Sarah Ostaszewski sacrifice fly extended the Hawks' lead to 3-1 after four innings.

A Cimino RBI double in the fifth brought the Mountain Hawks within 3-2. Lehigh put the first two batters on in the sixth but stranded them both in scoring position.

A three-run home run by Ostaszewski in the sixth extended Saint Joseph's' lead to 6-2. Junior Karsen O'Rourke singled home Cimino in the top of the seventh but Lehigh could get no closer.

Cimino was 3-for-4 in game one, while Barjaktarovich went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Junior Gabriella Nori went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Barjaktarovich and Chesson staked Lehigh to a 1-0 lead early in game two with Chesson picking up her second RBI of the game.

Saint Joseph's tied the game in the bottom of the first but Lehigh went back ahead in the fifth as Kittel doubled to left and freshman Bella Egizio singled home pinch runner Josie Charles.

Lehigh carried the lead into the bottom of the seventh but two infield singles and three Mountain Hawk errors allowed Saint Joseph's to score two runs to walk off with the victory.

Freshman Katelyn Young started in the circle for Lehigh and threw four innings of one-run, one-hit ball with three walks and three strikeouts. Freshman Ansley Dambach worked out of trouble in the sixth inning but took the loss after giving up the two unearned runs in the seventh.

Chesson and Kittel combined for four of Lehigh's six hits in the nightcap.

The Mountain Hawks will play their final scheduled non-league doubleheader next Saturday when they travel to Delaware. First pitch for game one is set for noon.
