Alum Zahir Carrington taking part in 3X3 Olympic Qualifying Team Training Camp

CHICAGO – Lehigh men's basketball alum Zahir Carrington '10 is one of 16 men participating in 3X3 Olympic Qualifying Team Training Camp this week, which began on Thursday and runs through Friday. The camp is being held at the Pullman Community Center in Chicago, Illinois. Carrington is vying to become one of four men selected to represent USA Basketball at the 2020 FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament March 18-22 in Bengaluru, India.

At the March Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the top three finishing teams will earn berths into the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games 3x3 basketball competition.

A two-time All-Patriot League honoree at Lehigh, Carrington currently stands 21st in program history in scoring (1,260 career points). He helped the Mountain Hawks to the 2010 Patriot League Championship as a senior, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds in the title game victory over Lafayette. Carrington was named the Patriot League Tournament MVP.

Since graduation, Carrington has been heavily involved in 3X3 competition as a member of the Princeton 3X3 team, which won the 2017 U.S. National Championship and competed in the FIBA 3X3 World Cup. For a Lehighsports.com feature story about the experience, please click here.

The 2020 Olympics for the first time will feature the inclusion of 3x3 basketball with eight men's and eight women's teams competing for gold July 25-29 in Tokyo.
