BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head men's basketball coach Brett Reed announced on Monday the additions of Keith Higgins and Tyler Whitney-Sidney in the Mountain Hawks' incoming class of 2025. Higgins, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, will head east from West Hills, California while Whitney-Sidney, a 6-foot-2 combo guard is a native of Somerville, Massachusetts. They will join the program in the fall of 2021.
Out of Chaminade Prep in California, Higgins was named first team All-Mission League last season and has also been named first team 2AA CIF (California Interscholastic Federation). So far in his high school career, Higgins has scored over 1,300 points already, averaged 17.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Higgins is on pace to score 2,000 points by the end of his senior year. Ranked as a top 100 national shooting guard and top 20 Southern California overall player, Higgins is a very highly-decorated high school player.
"Keith is in the mold of other talented guards we have had at Lehigh in recent history," said Reed. "He shoots the ball well and has a natural feel for the game. Defenses will have to account for his range and accuracy. He is confident in his ability and aggressive, but also has a well-grounded sense of what's the right basketball play. Keith is a very bright young man and an excellent student. He has every opportunity to excel in both the court and the classroom. We are very pleased to have him in a Mountain Hawk uniform."
From the Brooks School, Whitney-Sidney was named a three-star recruit by both ESPN and Rivals. A top 50 nationally ranked point guard according to Corey Evans, Whitney-Sidney was named All-NEPSAC and All-ISL as a sophomore. In 2018, he scored 35 points in a game, which was the school's second-highest total in the past 20 years for a Brooks player. Through his junior year, Whitney-Sidney owns 1,145 career points and has averaged 13.4 points and 4.1 rebounds over his high school career thus far. He was also named a prefect at Brooks School - a significant leadership distinction for a senior. Prefects are appointed to work with the younger students and help them feel welcome as they adjust to living away from home. Prefects are student leaders, described as doers and omnipresent on campus; they give of themselves and their talents generously.
"We are excited to have Tyler join our program," said Reed. "He is a very talented player and has the opportunity to strongly contribute to our program for years to come. He is explosive and should be able to create for himself and others. His size for the perimeter position, along with his athleticism, should also help him become a strong defender. I also like that he continues to develop in many aspects of his life and has been recognized for his influence and has taken on meaningful leadership responsibilities at his current school."
