Men's Tennis soars past Saint Francis on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team's solid play against Saint Francis was good enough for a season-opening win. The Mountain Hawks (1-0) defeated the Red Flash 7-0 at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday.
In all, the Brown and White won eight of the nine total matches that were played in the afternoon.
With the season-opening win, it was the first time since the 2015-16 season in which the Mountain Hawks opened their season with a win. In 2016, Lehigh defeated the Drexel Dragons.
Starting in doubles, the top two pairs for Lehigh got the Mountain Hawks on the board with the doubles point. The No.1 pair of Harry Wang and Zack Elliott defeated the Red Flash's tandem 6-4, while the No. 2 pair of Gary Fishkin and Jacob Edelchik grooved their way to an easy 6-1 win. Jack Martin-Dyer and Andrew Nakhjavan dropped a heartbreaker 7-5.
Moving on to singles, Lehigh showed its strength as all six players notched wins for the Mountain Hawks. Elliott, Wang, Fishkin and Matt Kleiman all won easily in straight sets. Edelchik and Martin-Dyer were ahead both closely ahead in their matches to conclude the day.
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will host the Siena Saints next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
