BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Just the second and third players ever in program history, both seniors Camryn Buhr and Hannah Hedstrom were named two of 30 candidates throughout the United States for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, announced by the organization on Friday afternoon. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Buhr and Hedstrom join Lehigh legend Erica Prosser '11 as the only players in Lehigh women's basketball history to be candidates for the award. The players join Loyola Maryland's Stephanie Karcz as the only players represented from the Patriot League.

Buhr has seen excellent academic success at a prestigious institution in Lehigh University's College of Business and Economics. Lehigh is currently tied for 50th nationally in the U.S. News and World Report top national universities. As a management major with a 3.61 cumulative GPA, Buhr has extensive experience in her area of interest, most recently interning at Crowe LLP as a healthcare consultant, where she worked on a team with a software solution that helped better estimate hospitals and physician clinics and account receivables. Prior to that, Buhr studied abroad in Prague, working for AAA Auto on their innovation team, researching new markets for them to enter and presenting her findings to them.

Her leadership on the women's basketball team is a huge reason for the team's success as a three-year starter since her freshman year. Burr's leadership and positive attitude as both a captain on the team has been evident from both the way she conducts herself on the floor and in the Lehigh community. In addition to her captainship, Buhr has been actively involved in Lehigh's Flight 45 program, legacies program, and Lehigh Athletics' Leadership Academy in the Emerging Leaders program which educates sophomore and junior student-athletes about how to lead by example, develop relationships with teammates and gain the credibility to lead their team vocally while actively supporting the efforts of current team captains.

She has also been working on a new project for the athletic leadership department at Lehigh with the Director of Athletics Leadership Development.

Prior to her time at Lehigh, Buhr was a key contributor in leading Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind. to win its first-ever state championship in 2016.

Buhr has been a consistent three-year starter on the team, where she has emerged as a statistical leader on both offense and defense. She has appeared in 107 of Lehigh's 108 games over the last three and a half seasons and was named the women's basketball team's outstanding athlete in the 2018-19 season for her performances. She was a Third Team All-Patriot League selection her sophomore season, averaging 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while averaging 33.5 minutes per game. As a junior last season, Buhr was named a First Team All-League selection at guard, leading the team in scoring (12.9) and rebounds (6.8). In both seasons, she led her team in field goal percentage at 43.3 and 43.8 percent, respectively.

Buhr has totaled over 200 rebounds in each of her last two seasons and nearly 400 points in those two years as well. So far, she has accumulated 652 career rebounds and 1,185 points, becoming just the 20th member of the 1,000-point club earlier this season and just the eighth member of Lehigh's 1,000-point, 500-rebound club.

Prior to the start of her senior year, Buhr was named a Preseason All-Patriot League selection, while the Mountain Hawks were picked first in the preseason poll.

Hedstrom has had an incredibly successful academic career at a prestigious institution in Lehigh University's College of Arts and Sciences. As a biology major with a 3.97 cumulative GPA, Hedstrom graduated in three years at Lehigh and is currently using her final year of athletic eligibility to pursue a master's degree in Healthcare Systems Engineering.

Hedstrom has had very prominent experience in her area of interest. In Summer 2018, she participated in the St. Luke's Summer Health Externship program, where she dedicated 75 hours shadowing health professionals. Hedstrom also participated in Lehigh Valley Health Network's Research Scholar Program in which she conducted and published research titled 'Optimizing the Advanced Practice Clinician New Hire Onboarding Experience through Education' that aimed to improve the new hire experience. She created educational materials providing a summary of the "top 10 diagnoses" that newly hired healthcare professionals will see in their respective department.

During the summer of 2019, Hedstrom was an intern at Coordinated Health in their Rotational Leadership Development Program, working in rotations through various corporate departments including Process Improvement, Marketing, IT, Finance and Strategy/Development.

She has been named Lehigh Women's Basketball's Scholar Athlete of the Year the last two seasons, was an Academic All-Patriot League selection in 2018 and 2019 and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2019.

Hedstrom has provided tremendous leadership on the team as a starter for the last three seasons. Her first year in 2017, she served as a student athlete mentor. For two years, she was a Student Athlete Council representative and was subsequently named a captain for the 2019 season. In addition to her captainship, Hedstrom has been actively involved in Lehigh's Flight 45 program and legacies program which educates sophomore and junior student-athletes about how to lead by example, develop relationships with teammates and gain the credibility to lead their team vocally while actively supporting the efforts of current team captains.

Prior to her time at Lehigh, Hedstrom was a two-time team captain at Minnetonka (Minn.) and led her team to a state championship in 2016, earning a spot on the All-State Tournament team.

Hedstrom has enjoyed a stellar career on the court for the Mountain Hawks over her last three seasons, making an appearance on the floor in all 108 of Lehigh's games including 107 starts at point guard.

She has totaled nearly 100 assists in each of her three seasons, leading the team in assists each year. Hedstrom reached the 300-assist milestone at the end of her junior season becoming just the ninth player in program history to join that club.

Hedstrom is an annual leader in both assists and steals, where she has tallied 135 in three years. She also has totaled at least 100 rebounds in each of her three seasons with 446 for her career.

This season, Hedstrom became just the second player in program history to register at least 300 assists and 500 rebounds for a career. She was the first player since Jessica Mudry '96 to enter that conversation.

One of the Patriot League's best defensive players in 2018-19, she was named an All-Defensive Team selection by coaches and media at the conclusion of the campaign.

Like so many of their teammates and other student-athletes at the university, Hedstrom and Buhr have been significant contributors to many efforts within the Lehigh community. Both of them, along with the women's basketball team, have routinely visited local Fountain Hill Elementary School to read to the students, teach a relevant lesson and participate in recess on the playground, as well as conduct clinics for the students.

The women's basketball team also hosts an Education Day game at the beginning of the season every year where over 4,000 students from local elementary schools come to Stabler Arena to watch the game and learn specific lessons throughout the day. Hedstrom and Buhr, along with their teammates, then sign autographs and talk with the kids at the end of the game.

In addition, Lehigh women's basketball, along with every Lehigh Athletics team annually takes part in Adopt-A-Family. The Mountain Hawks provide a holiday for an under-privileged family during this event. Together with Lehigh fraternities, sororities and other departments, the event itself has raised up to $30,000.

Lastly, Hedstrom, Buhr and their teammates have visited the St. Luke's Pediatric Ward every year during the holidays to bring cheer to the patients and their families.

The women's candidates will be narrowed to two fields of 10 finalists in February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select a female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Women's Final Four this spring. For more information on each of the candidates, visit seniorCLASSaward.com.
