
Three meets await Lehigh men this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh men's track and field team is set to compete in three meets during the second weekend of outdoor competition.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Richmond, Virginia, for the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond. The invitational meet is slated to begin on Friday, with competition continuing into Saturday.
Friday's competition opens with field events beginning at noon. The hammer throw is slated first, followed by shot put, pole vault, triple jump and javelin. Sophomore Riley LaRiviere is competing in the hammer and shot put on Friday, followed by the discus during Saturday's competition. Senior Alexander Rodgers is coming off a 23rd place finish at last weekend's Adidas Winthrop Invitational and will be competing for the second straight weekend in the shot put and the discus.
Junior Joseph Kelly, who finished third overall in the pole vault last weekend with a mark of 4.60m (15' 1") at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational, is slated to compete in the pole vault this weekend beginning at 3 p.m. Friday.
The men's track events begin Friday with the 400m hurdles. Sophomore Evan El-Halawani, freshman Matthew Fisher and freshman Michael Nardelli are each competing in the meet's opening running event.
Also happening this weekend is the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State. The meet, which begins Friday with action continuing into Saturday, is the second of the three that Mountain Hawks will be attending this weekend.
Freshman Kyle Burke is coming off a strong indoor rookie season and is racing in the 1500m at the Raleigh Relays. Burke finished in the top 10 in the 800m last weekend at the Penn Challenge.
Junior Kip Yegon will be racing in the 3000m steeplechase, which is slated to begin at 5:43 p.m. Last outdoor season, Yegon won the Patriot League Championship in the 300m steeplechase event with a time of 9:06.58.
In the third and final competition of the weekend, the Mountain Hawks will send athletes to the Lafayette 7-Way in Easton, Pa. The 7-Way is actually now an 8-way with Lehigh joining Lafayette, Colgate, Binghamton, Moravian, Muhlenberg and Stockton. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with track events set to begin at noon.
