
Mountain Hawks compete in two meets to open outdoor season

BETHLEHEM, Pa — The Lehigh men's track and field team opened its outdoor season this weekend, competing in two meets over the course of the weekend. The team traveled to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to compete in the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational and to Philadelphia to compete in the Penn Challenge at the University of Pennsylvania.
The weekend's action opened on Friday in Rock Hill with the shot put event. Senior Alexander Rodgers finished 23rd overall with a mark of 13.56m (44' 6").
Pole Vaulter junior Joseph Kelly finished third overall in the pole vault, hitting a 4.60m (15' 1") mark. Senior Max Jordan also finished in the top 20 in the pole vault, placing 16th overall with a mark of 4.15m (13' 7.25").
The Mountain Hawks' 4x100m relay team of freshman Martin Labib, sophomore Matt Solomon, senior Emre Soybas and sophomore Samuel Tapera finished 14th with a time of 45.35. The 4x400m relay team finished 16th, with sophomore Evan El-Halawani, freshman Michael Nardelli, Soybas and freshman Trevor Thenga finishing with a time of 3:33.17.
El-Halawani finished 13th overall in the 400m hurdles, finishing with a time of 55.41. Junior Erik Metz finished 13th overall in the triple jump, finishing the event with a 13.45m (44' 1.50") mark.
At the Penn Challenge on Saturday, freshman Kyle Burke finished ninth overall in the 800m with a time of 1:55.44. Junior Matthew Kravitz finished 15th in the event with a time of 1:59.61.
Junior Kip Yegon finished fifth overall in the 1500m race with a time of 4:00.79.

Lehigh will compete in the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va., and the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina next weekend.
