BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off two consecutive thrilling road wins, the Lehigh men's basketball team has a quick turnaround when it hosts Colgate Monday on Office Night presented by Ricoh. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Stabler Arena and will be aired nationally on CBS Sports Network. The Mountain Hawks have won four straight games and remain tied with Bucknell for first place in the standings at 8-2 in league play (15-6 overall). Most recently, Lehigh followed up its thrilling overtime win at Lafayette by staging its biggest comeback in Brett Reed's 12 seasons as head coach.
Â
As part of Office Night Monday, the second, fourth and 19th student at the game will receive an office themed prize. Two 'World's Best Boss' mugs will be given away to random fans while a grand prize will be given away to a random fan. The Bucks County Bungee Jumpers Jump Rope Team is also set to perform at halftime.
Â
The Mountain Hawks trailed Saturday's game at Army West Point by as much as 19 in the first half (34-15 and 41-22), with the eventual 19-point comeback beating out the 18-point comeback at Holy Cross earlier this season. Lehigh ended the first half on a 6-0 run to pull within 13, but Army reopened an 18-point, 55-37 advantage with 13:39 remaining. However, from there, the Mountain Hawks held a 38-15 edge the rest of the way, using a 13-0 run to pull even at 58 with 7:54 remaining. Lehigh knocked down four three-pointers in the span of 2:59 to get back into the game, three coming from senior Kyle Leufroy. The Black Knights actually responded to Lehigh's 13-0 run with a 6-0 run, but the Mountain Hawks wouldn't back down. A three from junior Jordan Cohen with 1:28 remaining gave Lehigh the lead for good.
Â
Leufroy led the charge with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the second half alone, finishing with 22 points and 10 boards for his second-career double-double. Ironically, his other double-double came in Lehigh's 18-point comeback at Holy Cross. Leufroy shot 5-of-9 from three while adding five assists and two steals. Meanwhile, Cohen continued his stellar play with 18 points on just nine field goal attempts, connecting on six of them, including 4-of-5 from distance. Cohen is now shooting 53.6 percent from three on the year (the Patriot League record is 50.7). That leads the league and would lead the nation if he had enough makes to qualify. Over his last three games, Cohen has 83 points on 32-of-42 shooting (76.2 percent).
Â
Senior Lance Tejada was strong at Army as well, scoring 12 points (nine in the first half to help keep the Mountain Hawks within striking distance). Sophomore James Karnik had 10 points, including some big baskets down the stretch to pull Lehigh even, then later gave his team the lead. Junior Ed Porter made a big impact as well, scoring a season-high seven points in just eight minutes, while adding a rebound and making a difference at both ends of the floor.
Â
Porter helped Lehigh's defense allow just 29 points over the game's final 24:21 after allowing 41 over the first 15:39. The Mountain Hawks held the Black Knights to just 33.3 percent shooting in the second half, while shooting 66.7 percent themselves (16-of-24). Lehigh finished at 48.1 percent from the field (26-of-54) and 44.4 percent from three (12-of-27) to comfortably remain as the nation's top shooting team from behind the arc (currently 45.0 percent on the year). The Mountain Hawks now stand top 10 nationally in field goal percentage (ninth, 49.5), three-point percentage (first, 45.0) and free throw percentage (ninth, 76.8).
Â
With the win, Lehigh improved to 23-2 in the month of February dating back to 2016, the best mark in the nation. Since last Jan. 29 at Holy Cross (also a CBS Sports Network game), the Mountain Hawks are 23-7 overall, 16-2 in Patriot League play. On Monday, Lehigh will look to avenge one of those losses, a 91-78 defeat at Colgate last month which saw the Raiders make big runs early and late for the victory.
Â
Colgate stands 13-10 on the season, 5-5 in Patriot League play having lost two of its last three. The Raiders have been missing their leading scorer Jordan Burns as of late due to injury. Rapolas Ivanauskas is averaging 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds while preseason All-League honoree Will Rayman comes in at 12.7 and 6.5, respectively. The Raiders' loss to Boston University Saturday was their first home defeat of the season while they are 5-9 on the road. Colgate advanced to the Patriot League Championship Game last season.
Â
Colgate had strong starts and finishes to the games last month to beat the Mountain Hawks, 91-78. That snapped Lehigh's three-game winning streak at Colgate and gave the Raiders just their second win in the last eight games in the all-time series. The only other win in that stretch was a 76-72 victory the last time the teams played at Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks won five in a row from Jan. 27, 2016 through Mar. 2, 2017 (a Patriot League Quarterfinal victory). The first-ever meeting between the two sides was in 1909-10, a 25-24 Colgate win. Lehigh's first victory was in 1961-62 by a 72-71 final.
Â
Following Monday's game, the Mountain Hawks remain home to host Navy on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 4:30 p.m. as the second game of a doubleheader with the Lehigh women. Saturday is Diversity and Inclusion Day presented by Lehigh University's Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity.
