BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four members of the Lehigh track and field program have been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team for the indoor season, the league announced Monday. Senior Clare Severe and junior Mary Casey represented the Lehigh women, while senior Kyle Berman and junior Kyle Sult represented the men on the teams, which are comprised of 10 men and 10 women.
Severe was named Academic All-Patriot League for the second consecutive indoor season, while Casey, Berman and Sult were all recognized for the first time.
A bioengineering major with a 3.39 cumulative GPA, Severe is a three-time member of Lehigh's Dean's List and has made six appearances on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, spanning her time as both a track athlete and a member of Lehigh's women's soccer team. At the Patriot League Championships, Severe anchored Lehigh's 4x800 meter relay team that finished first, setting school, facility and Patriot League championship meet records. Severe also earned second team all-league honors with runner-up finishes in the 1000 meters and the mile and was a member of the second place distance medley relay team.
Casey ran the leadoff leg of the record-setting 4x800 meter relay and also scored at the Patriot League Championships with a fifth place finish in the 800 meters. A biology major with a 3.83 cumulative GPA, Casey is a five-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection. Like Severe, Casey is a member of the women's soccer team in the fall season. She has made Lehigh's Dean's List with a 3.6 GPA or better in each of her first five semesters and was recognized as Lehigh women's soccer's Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the team's year-end banquet.
Berman captured the lone Patriot League title for the Lehigh men at the championship meet, winning the 1000 meters in 2:26.43. He set the school record in the same event earlier this month at the Bruce Lehane Invitational in Boston. A computer science and business major with a 3.60 GPA, Berman is a four-time Patriot League honor roll member between cross country and track and field, and has made Lehigh's Dean's List in three consecutive semesters and five of seven overall.
Sult carries a 3.86 GPA in mechanical engineering and is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He has made Lehigh's Dean's List in four of his first five semesters, including 4.0 semesters in the fall of 2017 and the spring 2018. At the Patriot League Championships, Sult earned a podium finish in the heptathlon, finishing third with 4889 points. He won the 60 meter dash portion of the heptathlon and added an additional team point with an eighth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles.
Navy senior Stefano Pineda and Army West Point junior Lynne Mooradian were named Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively, for indoor track and field.
To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Patriot League, a student athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and be key contributor to their team.
