Women's Swimming and Diving looks to continue the momentum on Saturday against Loyola

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a weekend in they won against three different schools, the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team will embark on another win this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will host Loyola Maryland on Saturday inside Jacobs Pool.

Last time out, Lehigh traveled to Lawrenceville and defeated the Rider Broncos, 187-106, to cap off a 3-0 weekend. Before Saturday's meet with Rider, the Brown and White captured a hard-fought victory against West Chester and Bloomsburg in a tri-meet.

"The ladies are off to a great start this season," gloated head coach Rob Herb. "Last weekend was tough, but tough weekends make tough athletes. Last weekend will only help our team in the long haul."

One thing that was noted over the last weekend was the depth of this team. Outside of the key contributors in Payton Miles, Ann Foley, Tori Connolly and Anna Francisco, the Mountain Hawks saw great results from freshmen Sarah Hardy, Danielle Prekop, Hannah Lord and Sophia Poeta. All four have won races for Lehigh early in the season.

"Our first-year swimmers are so fun to watch," Herb said. "They have really high goals for themselves and that shows their dedication and wanting to constantly improve."

Not only has Lehigh looked sharp in the individual events, but they have had the same success in the relay events. The 200 and 400 freestyle relay team continues to dominate early in the season.

Fresh off winning Patriot League Diver of the Week, Megan Fennell earned second and third in the 1 and 3-meter dives at West Chester, while taking first at Rider in the same dives with scores of 270.53 and 267.98.

Samantha Gallego and Liz Olszewski picked up wins well for Lehigh, adding to its depth. "With our 4-0 start to the season, the expectations remain the same for us. Not being overly confident, but being held accountable and making sure what needs to be done is done. Going forward, consistency is our biggest thing." concluded Herb.

All-time, the Mountain Hawks have won all six meetings between the Greyhounds. Last year, Lehigh defeated Loyola, 175.5-124.5.

Up next, Lehigh will take a few weeks off and return on Friday, Nov. 22 against rival Lafayette.
