Lehigh returns to Goodman Stadium to battle Georgetown on Family Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Winners of three consecutive games, Lehigh returns to Goodman Stadium for the first time in a month to battle Georgetown as part of Family Weekend, presented by PSECU. Both of Lehigh's Patriot League games have been decided on the final play, but the Mountain Hawks return home at 2-0 in league play. Last week, the Mountain Hawks won 30-27 at Fordham with junior Addison Shoup completing a game-winning four-yard touchdown pass to senior Devon Bibbens. Lehigh's defense registered six more sacks, including four from senior Keith Woetzel, to go along with 15 tackles and an interception. Georgetown edged Lafayette 14-10 last week for its first league win. The Hoyas ended a 17-game losing streak against Lehigh with a double-overtime win last October.

Linebacker Keith Woetzel has led the Mountain Hawks in tackles in each of the last two seasons and has had a tremendous first half of his senior season. Woetzel, who finished 2017 and 2018 with 89 tackles, has 72 through six games, as he leads the FCS in solo tackles per game (8.7) and ranks second in total tackles per game (12.0). He recorded a career-high 16 tackles at UC Davis and has registered double-digit tackles in four straight games. Woetzel has added 11.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks and picked off his first pass of the season at Fordham. He was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week following a 13-tackle, 2.5-sack effort at Colgate and won the award again, while adding STATS FCS National Player of the Week honors to his resume after making 15 tackles with four sacks and an interception at Fordham.

Freshman Zaythan Hill broke free for a 94-yard touchdown run in Lehigh's win at Fordham, a touchdown that gave the Mountain Hawks a 24-17 lead early in the fourth quarter. Hill became the first Mountain Hawk with a run from scrimmage of 90 or more yards since Ronald Jean ran 92 yards for a touchdown in the 1998 Lafayette game. The school record for longest run from scrimmage is 97 yards, by Dick Gabriel against Franklin & Marshall in 1948. Hill has the third most rushing attempts among Lehigh's stable of backs, but leads the Mountain Hawks with 256 rushing yards. He finished with 124 yards on 11 carries against Fordham, including 23 yards on the first three plays of overtime. The 94-yard run is the longest run from scrimmage in Patriot League football history.

After leaving the Colgate game early due to injury, senior wide receiver Devon Bibbens returned to the lineup with one of the best all-around games of his career. Bibbens established a new career high with 10 receptions and caught a pair of touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime. He showed off his well-roundedness as a receiver, but delivering a key block on the perimeter that helped spring Zaythan Hill on his 94-yard touchdown. Bibbens was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The New Hope, Pa., native had back-to-back 100-yard receiving games against UC Davis and Merrimack, including a career-high 133 yards versus the Warriors. For the season, Bibbens has 38 receptions for 449 yards and four touchdowns. He ranks second in the Patriot League in receptions and yards per game.

Sophomore tight end Alex Snyder has emerged as a weapon for Lehigh offensively. He has 10 receptions for 228 yards through six games, and is coming off a four-catch, 128-yard effort at Fordham. Snyder became the first Lehigh tight end to gain 100 receiving yards in a game since Adam Bergen had seven catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns at Holy Cross on Oct. 9, 2004. The Cumming, Ga., native appeared in all 11 games as a freshman and looks to re-establish the role of the tight end in Lehigh's offense. In the 2017 and 2018 seasons combined, Lehigh tight ends had just 10 receptions, including two by Snyder last year.

At 5-2, Georgetown owns the most overall wins of any Patriot League school. The Hoyas lost their league opener 30-27 against Fordham on a late touchdown, but came back to hold off Lafayette 14-10 last weekend to get their league record to 1-1. Statistically, Georgetown boasts the Patriot League's top scoring offense and rushing offense, as well as the league's best scoring defense, passing defense and overall defense. Georgetown features a dual threat quarterback in Gunther Johnson, two quality backs in Herman Moultrie III and Jackson Saffold and capable receivers Joshua Tomas, Michael Dereus and Cameron Crayton. Linebackers Justin Fonteneaux and Xavier Reddick are the Hoyas' top tacklers, while defensive lineman Khristian Tate has 32 tackles and a team-best three sacks. The Hoyas lost their season-opener at Davidson, then won four straight over Marist, Catholic, Columbia and Cornell.

Lehigh and Georgetown meet for the 25th time with the Mountain Hawks leading the series 18-6.  Georgetown's double-overtime win last season snapped a 17-game Lehigh winning streak in the series. The Brown and White met the Hoyas for the first time in 1901 and the teams did not meet between 1926 and 2001.

Last year's double-overtime loss at Georgetown snapped a 17-game winning streak for the Mountain Hawks in the series. Lehigh is now 17-1 against Georgetown since the Hoyas joined the Patriot League in 2001, and the Mountain Hawks have outscored the Hoyas by an average of 37-14 in those games. The Mountain Hawks have been especially tough on Georgetown at Goodman Stadium, going 8-0 and outscoring the Hoyas 353-113 in those games. Lehigh had three shutouts over Georgetown in that 17-game streak and all three games were played at Goodman Stadium (2002, 2007, 2009).

Saturday's game kicks off just after 12:30 from Goodman Stadium. Tickets are still available, and may be purchased by visiting LehighTickets.com or by calling (610) 7LU-GAME during business hours.
