Lehigh Earns Six Wins to Take Fourth Place at Lafayette 8-Way

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team picked up six individual victories on Saturday to take home fourth place at the Lafayette 8-Way Invitational. The Mountain Hawks received wins from senior Trevor Knowles (110H), junior Kyle Sult (javelin), freshman Samuel Tapera, senior Michael Camera, freshman Sean Brown (800m) and senior Henry Paul (steeplechase). LU also had seven runner-up finishes and five third place finishes on the day.
Lehigh also had several athletes wrap up competition at the two-day Raleigh Relays in North Carolina, which featured multiple IC4A qualifying marks and personal records.
At Lafayette on Saturday, Lehigh had a strong day on the track, where they picked up five of their six wins. Knowles set a new personal record with his time of 14.76 in the 100m hurdles, earning him first place. Freshman Evan El-Halawani grabbed a podium finish in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in third place in 56.83.
Tapera hit an IC4A qualifying time with his personal record, first place 10.96-second time. Camera picked up his second 200m victory of the season, and the first on the outdoor track, coming in first in the D1 scoring in 23.01. Emre Soybas was the second D1 runner across the line in the 400m dash, finishing in 50.34 seconds.
Brown broke the tape for a first place overall finish atop the leaderboard in the 800m for his second career victory. Joining him on the podium was sophomore Ryan Paradise who was able to capture third place (1:58.75). Ryan Grace and Matt Kravitz teamed up to take home second and third places in the 1500m, with Grace PR-ing in 4:01.93, and Kravitz following close behind (4:02.73). Victor Yegon set a new personal record of 15:26.34 while finishing second in the 5,000m. Joseph Inglis (15:49.28) also represented Lehigh by rounding out the top five.
The Mountain Hawks did damage by grabbing 28 team points after taking the top four places in the 3,000m steeplechase. Paul (9:28.93), Seth Slavin (9:40.67), Michael Mitchell (9:56.27) and Nick Norton (9:57.29) all ran personal-bests to finish in order one-through-four.
Over in the field events, Sult took home top honors with his IC4A qualifying throw of 58.51m in the javelin. Anastasios Mouzakis finished sixth in his collegiate debut in the hammer throw at 47.56m. Christopher Alexy (43.37m) and Knowles (42.63m) led Lehigh in the discus, where both collected new PRs to finish ninth and 10th, respectively. Alexander Rodgers led the way in the shot put (13.93m), followed by Alexy (13.71m) and Knowles (13.45m).
Joey Kelly finished runner-up at 4.25m in the vault, with Max Jordan just off the podium in fourth (4.10m). LU also grabbed two additional runner-up scores from junior Ryan Givens in the long jump (6.91 meters) and triple jumper Taj-Blount Oden (13.39m). Givens later added a second podium finish by taking bronze in the high jump after clearing 1.92m. Freshman Justin Brown competed in three events, including the triple jump where he set a new PR of 12.69 meters.
Down in Raleigh, Kyle Berman ran the 1500m in an IC4A qualifying time of 3:56.43. Jeffrey Kirshenbaum also hit an IC4A qualifying time of 30:45.48 in his collegiate debut in the 10,000m. John Tolbert set a PR with his IC4A qualifying time of 9:19.26 in the 3,000m steeplechase. In the throws, Riley LaRiviere made his collegiate discus debut (35.97m), while teammate Adam Freesman PR-ed in the hammer throw (42.41m).
Next up, Lehigh will head to Lafayette next Saturday, April 7 for the annual rivalry dual meet showdown with the Leopards.
