Mountain Hawks host rival Lafayette for three game Easter weekend series

The Rivalry: Lehigh vs. Lafayette
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Rivalry takes to the softball diamond this weekend as Lehigh hosts Lafayette on the second weekend of Patriot League play. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and will wrap up the series with a single game Sunday at noon. All three games will be streamed on the Patriot League Network.

Lehigh opened Patriot League play by winning two of three games from Colgate last weekend at Leadership Park. Sophomore Parker Boyd allowed two runs over 13 innings with 16 strikeouts to lead the Mountain Hawks to victories in games one and three of the series. Boyd was recognized as the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. She leads the Mountain Hawks with five wins, a 3.70 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 75.2 innings of work.

Freshman catcher Allyson Dibsie led Lehigh at the plate in the Colgate series, going 3-for-8 with a RBI and two runs scored. Junior Ashley Rabago and sophomore Lexi van Ooyen each drove in three runs in the series, while senior Cassie Lajeunesse added a key two-run single to help the Mountain Hawks to a 3-1 win in the series finale.

The Mountain Hawks stepped out of league Tuesday and dropped a 12-3 decision at Penn in six innings. Sophomore Reva Alderman hit Lehigh's first home run of the season against the Quakers, highlighting a 2-for-3 showing.

Overall, sophomore Mary-Hannah Smith leads Lehigh with 11 RBIs, while senior Nicole Yozzo remains tops in batting average (.318), hits (21), runs (15) and stolen bases (22).

Lafayette comes in at 4-22 overall. The Leopards won their league opener against Holy Cross last Sunday before dropping the final two games of the series. On Thursday, Lafayette split a doubleheader at St. Peter's, winning the opener 8-5 before falling 7-4 in the nightcap. Caitlyn de la Haba, a one-time Lehigh assistant, is in her first season as Lafayette's head coach.

The Leopards are led by junior shortstop Brook Wensel, who is the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week after a 5-for-6 showing versus Holy Cross last weekend. Wensel leads Lafayette with a .278 average, three home runs and 17 RBIs. Miranda Skurla also is in double figures for RBIs with 15 as the Leopards are hitting just .219 as a team.

Three pitchers have combined to post a 7.14 ERA for Lafayette. Freshman Hannah Cook owns two of the four wins with a team-leading 5.91 ERA. Alexis Randall owns the other two wins.

Lehigh holds a commanding 94-24 lead in the series. Lafayette won last year's series finale, snapping a 13-game Mountain Hawk winning streak.

Following the Lafayette series, Lehigh will play a doubleheader at Fordham on Wednesday before visiting Boston University for three games next weekend in a matchup of the two teams that have won the last four Patriot League Tournament titles.
