BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Playing its best basketball of the season, Lehigh will vie for its seventh straight victory when it travels to Loyola on Wednesday night. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on the Patriot League Network. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a dominant 84-53 win over Army West Point Saturday night, marking Lehigh's largest margin of victory this season and largest-ever win against the Black Knights.
On Wednesday, the Mountain Hawks will be aiming for their longest regular-season winning streak since winning nine straight to end the 2015-16 regular season, a streak which reached 11 following wins in the Patriot League Quarterfinals and Semifinals. Following Saturday's win over Army, Lehigh is now 5-0 this February and 20-2 over its last three Februaries. The Mountain Hawks were 9-0 two years ago and 6-2 last year.
Lehigh actually trailed Army 14-6 early on, but doubled up the Black Knights 78-39 the rest of the way. Facing their early eight-point deficit, the Mountain Hawks staged a 34-7 run to take a 40-21 lead, erasing much doubt. Sophomore Pat Andree scored a team-leading 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. In the process, he eclipsed the 500-career point plateau. He has now scored double-figure points in 14-of-16 Patriot League games. Classmate Jordan Cohen posted 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal. Junior Lance Tejada had 12 points and four rebounds while freshman Marques Wilson scored 10 points while adding seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior Kahron Ross had five points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals, moving past Charlie Brown '77 for 18th place in school history for career points (Ross currently owns 1,314).
In total, nine of the 10 Mountain Hawks who saw action, scored. Sophomore Josh Wolf also saw his second action of the season, posting a rebound and block. As a team, eight different Lehigh players knocked down a three-pointer, finishing 13-of-29 as a group for the night (44.8 percent). Despite finishing just two made threes from tying a Stabler Arena record (which was also tied earlier this season), the Mountain Hawks' streak of six straight games shooting 50+ percent from long distance did end. Lehigh has been red hot from three-point range in Patriot League play, knocking down 46.6 percent (172-of-369), including 51.7 percent over its last seven games (78-of-151).
Lehigh's defense impressed, allowing a season-low 53 points, seven points fewer than its previous best of 60 vs. Mount St. Mary's on Dec. 9. The Mountain Hawks held Army West Point to just 29.3 percent shooting (22-of-75), including just 17.6 percent from three-point range (6-of-34), both season bests for the Lehigh defense. The Mountain Hawks added four blocks and eight steals on the evening.
Saturday's win marked the 100th league (regular season) victory in head coach Brett Reed's career. Reed is currently fourth in Patriot League history in that category. Lafayette's Fran O'Hanlon is first (147), Bucknell's Pat Flannery is second (126) and American's Jeff Jones is third (108). Reed is currently at 196 overall victories in his career (compared to just 145 losses).
Loyola enters Wednesday with an 8-19 record, including 6-10 mark in Patriot League play. The Greyhounds have struggled as of late, dropping their last three games and five of their last six. Chuck Champion comes in at 11.7, Cam Gregory is averaging 11.6 and a team-leading 8.2 boards per game, Isaiah Hart has scored 10.6 points per game and Andrew Kostecka is averaging 10.5. Hart also leads the team in assists with 80 through 27 games. Loyola is averaging 69.0 points per game while allowing 78.0.

Most recently, the Greyhounds came back from a 17-point deficit this Jan. 24 to win, 91-88 in overtime and take a 10-8 lead in the all-time series. Twenty-three turnovers hurt the Mountain Hawks, including six during a late second-half stretch to help Loyola stage the comeback. Loyola won a pair of nail-biters last season, 84-83 and 62-60. The Mountain Hawks led for 39:14 in the first meeting and 26:34 in the second, but the Greyhounds came back in both contests for victories. Prior to meeting as league opponents, the teams previously played on Nov. 26, 1988, an 86-72 Lehigh victory. The sides first met in 1912-13, a 41-19 Lehigh victory. Loyola's first win was in 1915-16 by a 35-15 final.
