
Mountain Hawks Get Set For NCAA Regional

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's cross country team will send its top-seven runners to compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by Penn State on Friday.
After placing fifth in the Patriot League Championship on October 27, Lehigh has moved up to No.13 in the Mid-Atlantic region rankings. Fellow Patriot League opponents Bucknell (9) and Navy (10) are also among the top-15 teams in the region.
The top two teams from each region, plus 13 at-large teams from across the country will qualify for the national championships. After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals will be selected to compete at nationals. A complete breakdown of the qualification process can be found by clicking here.
Leading the charge for the men will be junior Jeffrey Kirshenbaum, who has finished first among Mountain Hawk runners five times this year. He most recently finished 32nd at the Patriot League Championship with a time of 27:10.3. His best race of the year came at the Princeton Invitational where he ran a time of 25:23.9.
Also competing for the Brown and White will be sophomore Sean Brown, sophomore Brad DeMassa, sophomore Eric Kersten, freshman Ethan Koza, freshman Avery Lederer, and sophomore Seth Slavin.
Brown, who was the top runner in the Patriot League Championship for Lehigh finished with a 17th place finish and a time of 26:34.2. His best race this year was the Princeton Invitational where he finished with a time of 25:24.0.
DeMassa competed in six events for Lehigh this season, finishing first among Mountain Hawk runners twice this season. DeMassa set a season-best with his time of 25:25.8 at the Princeton Invitational.
Kersten ran in all seven-events Lehigh competed in, placing sixth in the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet and 32nd at the Patriot League Championship. He ran his best race at the Princeton Invitational where he finished with a time of 25:23.9.
Koza ran in six events this fall for the Mountain Hawks with a season-best at the Princeton Invitational resulting in a final time of 25:41.0.
Lederer, who placed first among Lehigh runners in the first event of the season at the Bison Open took part in seven events so far this season. He ran a season-best 26:05 at the Paul Short Run.
Slavin was yet another runner for the Mountain Hawks to take part in at least six events. Finishing second among Lehigh runners twice this season, he had a season best of 25:31 at the Paul Short Run.
In last year's regionals, the Mountain Hawks placed 9th out of 26 competing schools, as Patrick Reilly qualified for the NCAA Championship following his fifth-place overall finish with a time of 30:39.4 in the 10k.
