UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The men's cross country team finished 15th at this years NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional this year at Penn State Friday.
Princeton was the top team this year, as they finished with a team score of 61. Villanova and Georgetown placed second and third with a team scored of 73 and 97.
Lehigh, with a team score of 364, was the third highest Patriot League school at the race, with Navy (8) and Bucknell (12) finishing ahead of the Mountain Hawks. American (18), Lafayette (21) and Loyola (Md.) (24) were the other Patriot League schools to compete.
"We need people to emerge where we can get them farther up in the race, but looking at it now, it looks like we can have more than one guy be our leader. We can move seven guys up where in some years we could only move one. That can make a big difference when you have a team moving up as a pack." Said head coach Todd Etters
Of Lehigh's top five runners, all five placed in the top-100 with sophomore Brad DeMassa leading the way with a 61st place overall finish with a time of 32:47. This was the third time this season for DeMassa finishing first among Lehigh runners.
Fellow sophomore Eric Kersten was next to finish for the Brown and White with a 63rd place finish and a time of 32:48. Freshman Ethan Koza finished 70th with a time of 32:57 while the lone junior, Jeffrey Kirshenbaum, finished 71st with a time of 32:58. Sophomore Sean Brown rounded out the top-five runners for Lehigh with a 99th place finish with a time of 33:21.
"We're excited about the future, we have a young group and a race like this will make them hungry for the future and they can achieve. I feel very confident that we have what it takes to compete with the best in the league and the best in the region." Said Etters.
