Lehigh welcomes Colgate in home finale as part of Family Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its final home game of 2018, Lehigh hosts No. 8/10 Colgate Saturday as part of Family Weekend. The Mountain Hawks snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 45-17 win over Bucknell last Saturday in Lehigh's most complete performance of the season. A balanced Lehigh offense put up 45 points and 550 total yards, while the Mountain Hawks' defense held the Bison to just 255 total yards and just three second-half points. Lehigh must now contend with a Colgate team that clinched the Patriot League title last week and has allowed just 23 points all season, including three straight shutouts. The Raiders have not allowed a touchdown since Sept. 1. The Lehigh-Colgate game is presented by PSECU.

One week after falling 56-0 at Holy Cross, Lehigh rebounded with its most complete all-around performance of the season, establishing season highs for points and total offense and season lows for points and yards allowed in its 45-17 win over Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks were balanced offensively, rushing for 215 yards and three touchdowns, and passing for 335 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Lehigh allowed just 300 yards and scored its first defensive touchdown in nearly three years. The 45 points scored were the most scored by Lehigh in a game following a game in which it was shut out in 50 years. Lehigh lost 6-0 to Lafayette in the final game of the 1967 season, then opened 1968 with a 59-21 win over Drexel.

Sophomore wide receiver Jorge Portorreal enjoyed the best statistical day of his career and one of the finest receiving games in school history in the Mountain Hawks' win over Bucknell. Portorreal tied a career-high with nine receptions and gained 216 yards, while scoring two touchdowns, on receptions of 56 and 72 yards. The 216 yards tied for the sixth-highest single game total in school history as Portorreal delivered Lehigh's first 200-plus yard receiving game since Troy Pelletier gained 213 last year against Georgetown. Portorreal was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

Sophomore Pete Haffner was the latest of the Lehigh linebackers to turn in an impressive performance. Making just his second career start, for the injured Mark Walker, Haffner tied for the team lead with 10 tackles in Lehigh's win over Bucknell. Nine of Haffner's 10 tackles were solo stops and the State College, Pa., product added a tackle for loss and two pass breakups. Haffner was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday becoming the first Mountain Hawk to win that award since Pierce Ripanti following Bucknell's last visit to Goodman Stadium in 2016.

After earning first team All-Patriot League honors as a kicker and punter as a sophomore, injuries limited Ed Mish at times in both capacities last season. Now healthy, Mish looks to regain the form that saw him go 62-for-62 on extra points (a school record for PATs made) as a sophomore, while averaging 43 yards per punt. Mish became Lehigh's career leader in extra points last season and earned second team All-Patriot League honors as a kicker. Mish eclipsed the 200 point mark against Saint Francis and broke Erik Bird's longstanding career record for kick scoring with nine points against Bucknell, breaking the record with his sixth extra point of the game.  For his efforts, Mish earned his seventh career Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week award on Monday. Mish currently holds Lehigh's career record for net punting average at 42.1 yards per punt.

Colgate clinched its 10th Patriot League title and second straight with a 41-0 win at Fordham last weekend. The Raiders boast the top defense in the FCS, allowing just 2.9 points and 194.6 yards per game. Colgate has allowed just 23 points all season, 17 of which came in its season-opener, which is the last time the Raiders allowed a touchdown. The Raiders have five shutouts this season. Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Nick Wheeler leads the defense. Wheeler leads Colgate with 13 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Linebacker T.J. Holl is the top tackler with 68 stops. The offense is led by sophomore quarterback Grant Breneman, a dual threat who is effective with his arm and his legs. Tailback James Holland Jr. leads the Patriot League with 760 rushing yards and has scored eight rushing touchdowns. Owen Rockett is the top receiver, with 26 catches for 533 yards and two scores.

Lehigh meets Colgate for the 57th time with the Raiders holding a 29-25 lead.  There have also been two ties. Lehigh has won six of the last eight meetings, but Colgate's wins in 2012 and 2015 clinched Patriot League titles for the Raiders. Andy Coen is 7-5 versus Colgate and 4-2 versus the Raiders at Goodman Stadium.

Saturday's game kicks off just after 12:30 p.m. from Goodman Stadium. Tickets are still available and can be purchased anytime at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-7LU-GAME during business hours.

Lehigh will close out its season next Saturday when the Mountain Hawks visit Lafayette in the 154th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry. The Mountain Hawks will be seeking a fourth straight win over the Leopards and a ninth win in the last 11 games in the series. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. from Fisher Stadium in Easton.
