Mountain Hawks Finish Fifth In Patriot League Championship
10/27/2018 2:05:00 PM | Men's Cross Country
LEWISBURG, Pa – The men's cross country team came away with a fifth-place finish as a team in the 2018 Patriot League Championship this Saturday.
Finishing first for the men was Army West Point, as four of their top-five runners placed in the top-10. Boston U and Bucknell rounded out the top-three.
Of its top-five runners, Lehigh saw four finish in the top-30.
Sophomore Sean Brown came away with the top time for Lehigh, finishing 17th overall with a time of 26:34.2. This was the first time that Brown placed first among Lehigh runners.
After Brown, junior Jeffrey Kirshenbaum was next to finish for the Mountain Hawks. Kirshenbaum placed 22nd with a time of 26:48.4. Of the six races he's run in, Kirshenbaum has finished first or second among Lehigh runners five times this season now.
Freshman Avery Lederer was third to finish for the Brown and White, placing 26th with a time of 26:54.0.
Senior Brian Arita was close behind Lederer with a 29th place finish for a final time of 27:02.4.
"I've got to get these guys to compete at a championship level. We've stubbed our toe the entire year and i don't think we were able to raise our mental game to the point where we were able to come in and truly compete at the level we were hoping to," said head coach Todd Etters after the race.
"I'm very pleased with how Sean raced, he's one the toughest kids on our team. He went out and battled the entire race, he never got rattled and I think that the kids who did well were those that didn't get rattled. Everyone had to go up against the same conditions with this course, but the kids that were able to keep their composure and continue to compete were the one's who did the best."
Lehigh ventures to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in University Park, Pa. on November 9.
