LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh men's cross country team competed in the Bucknell tuneup Friday as they continue to prepare for the Patriot League Championship next week.
The Mountain Hawks had two groups of runners compete at Bucknell, with one squad running a 4k and the other running a 6k. Also competing in the race was Lafayette, Bucknell and Mansfield.
In the men's 4k, Lehigh had a five-way tie for first, as Brad DeMassa, Eric Kersten, Brian Arita, Kip Yegon and Jeffrey Kirshenbaum all finished with a time of 12:21.0. Seth Slavin was next to finish for the Mountain Hawks in the 4k with a time of 12:28.0 while Michael Mitchell was close behind with a 12:30.0 final time.
In the 6k race, Nicholas Wilson was the leading runner for Lehigh with a time of 19:50.00 while Kyle Berman was right behind him with a time of 19:51.00.
"The race today was a perfect preview for what we will be facing next weekend when Bucknell hosts the Patriot League Championships on the same course. Our men racing the 4k did a really good job of sticking together and almost all the men that raced the 6k were significantly faster than they were at the end of August when we raced at the Bison Open," said head coach Todd Etters after the race.
Lewisburg calls the Mountain Hawks once more, as the Patriot League Championship will be run at Bucknell this year. The championship will be on October 27 for both the men and women.
"Overall, we came to this meet because it provided us with the best opportunity to physically and mentally prepare for what we expect to see at the championship race. I am even more excited about our prospects and I am really looking forward to our return trip to Lewisburg next weekend."
