BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh field hockey team will wrap up its home schedule this weekend when it hosts Colgate on Saturday (11 a.m.) and Rider on Sunday (12 p.m.). Both games can be seen live on the Patriot League Network. Saturday features a big Patriot League matchup against the Raiders, one day before Lehigh's Senior Day game against the Broncs. Seniors Lindsay Alvarez, Isabel McKeown and Lauren Dice will be recognized prior to their final home game in the Brown and White.
Â
Lehigh nearly picked up a big Patriot League win vs. Holy Cross last Saturday, leading 1-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining behind an Alvarez goal just over two minutes in. However, the Crusaders stormed back in big fashion with four unanswered goals, despite Lehigh holding a 12-8 edge in second-half shots. In the end, Crusaders' goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante made 10 saves to lead Holy Cross.
Â
The Mountain Hawks followed on Monday with a very solid effort against Cornell. The Big Red scored two first-half goals, one via a penalty stroke and the other as the first-half clock expired. The second half was scoreless as Cornell wrapped up the 2-0 final. One of several bright spots was the play of Lehigh's defense, backboned by junior goalkeeper Paige Innarella who made 10 saves – her fourth double-figure save effort of the season.
Â
Colgate stands 2-11 on the season, 0-4 in Patriot League play. The Raiders began the season 2-0, but have lost 11 straight since. Nora Mulroy leads the team in goals (6) and points (12) while four others are tied for second in points with five. Among that group is Taylor Casamassa, who leads Colgate with five assists. Three Raiders own one defensive save apiece. In goal, Anna Unger has started 12-of-13 games, tallying a 3.60 goals against average and 0.654 save percentage.
Â
The Raiders lead the all-time series, 19-16-1, but Lehigh has won three straight – 2-1 in overtime (2015), 6-0 (2016) and 1-0 (2017). The last time the teams played at Lehigh, the Mountain Hawks picked up their largest-ever margin of victory in a Patriot League contest.
Â
Rider has won three straight to improve to 7-5 on the season, beating Lock Haven, VCU and LIU Brooklyn. Tess Coorens leads the Broncs in goals (9) and points (21) while Carly Brosious has 18 points (seven goals, four assists) and Marion Waterkeyn owns 17 (six goals, five assists). Lena Vandam has started every game in goal, recording a 2.22 GAA and 0.717 save percentage.
Â
Rider leads the all-time series with Lehigh, 18-17-1, but the Mountain Hawks won the most recent meeting, 2-1 to open the 2016 season. That game marked Caitlin Dallmeyer's first as Lehigh head coach.
Â
Following this weekend's games, the Mountain Hawks hit the road next weekend with games at Boston University (Saturday, Oct. 20) and Yale (Sunday, Oct. 21).
