BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the official start of preseason practice just over two week away, Lehigh head women's basketball coach Sue Troyan has announced the team's schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. The schedule features 29 games, including one NCAA Tournament team and three teams that appeared in the WNIT last season.

"Our non-conference schedule will be a challenging one this year as we start out the season with a number of games on the road including games against quality opponents out of the Big Ten and Big East conferences," Troyan said.

Lehigh will open up with four consecutive games away from Stabler Arena, beginning on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Minnesota and Nov. 14 at Monmouth.

"We open our schedule at the University of Minnesota, which will be a homecoming of sorts for a number of players associated with our program," Troyan said. "Hannah Hedstrom and Mariah Sexe both reside in Minnesota so this will be considered a "home game" for the two of them; senior Mae Williams has a number of relatives who live in the Minnesota area; and two of our class of 2018 commits also hail from the state of Minnesota."

The Mountain Hawks first game in the Lehigh Valley will help kickoff rivalry weekend on Friday, Nov. 17 at PPL Center in Allentown when they will take on Villanova, who advanced to the semifinals of the WNIT last March.

"We're extremely excited to play in a doubleheader setting with the Villanova men's and women's programs at PPL Center in Allentown," Troyan said. "On the eve of college football's most played rivalry, it's only fitting to share the venue with the Lafayette men with a doubleheader against Villanova. We're hoping we can get a spirited crowd at the game as they prep for Saturday's football game."

After a stop at Cornell on Nov. 20, the Mountain Hawks will open up a four-game home stand on Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 22 against Mansfield. Lehigh will then host the 20th Christmas City Classic on Nov. 25-26 at Stabler Arena, when they will welcome La Salle, New Hampshire and Fairfield for the two-day tournament. UNH is coming off an America East regular season title last season, riding a 26-6 record into the WNIT.

Lehigh will remain at home coming out of Thanksgiving weekend with a Wednesday evening matchup against Mount St. Mary's on Nov. 29, before heading back out on the road to face Sacred Heart on Dec. 3.

On December 6, the University will host NJIT for the annual Education Day at Stabler Arena, an event that has drawn in over 12,000 students from area elementary schools over the last three years.

"Our Education Day is one of the highlighted games of the year for our team as they play in front of a packed house in Stabler," Troyan said. "Our administrative and marketing teams have done an exceptional job of making this a marquee event for our student-athletes and the local community, as they surpassed 4,000 kids in attendance at last year's game setting a Lehigh women's basketball attendance record.  We hope to once again set a new record this year with our game vs NJIT."

The Mountain Hawks will then close out non-league play on Dec. 10 at LIU Brooklyn before a nearly- three week layoff for final exams and the holidays. The game will be part of a doubleheader for LIU and be played at the Barclay's Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets.

Patriot League play will begin on Friday, Dec. 29 with a showdown against Lafayette at Stabler Arena, followed by a home matchup against Navy on Jan. 2. After a trip to Holy Cross on Jan. 5, Lehigh will have home contests on Jan. 8 (Boston U.), Jan. 11 (Bucknell), Jan. 20 (Army West Point), Feb. 10 (American), Feb. 14 (Colgate), Feb. 21 (Loyola) and Feb. 28 (Holy Cross).

"Patriot League play promises to be as intense as ever with many quality teams in our conference returning key players to their rosters," said Troyan. "I think we will see a significant improvement to the overall quality of play in our league this year as a large number of key players in our league return for action this year."

The Mountain Hawks will be among those retaining most of their talent from last season, with 11 players returning, including all five starters.

Season tickets holders can begin to renew their packages now for this coming season. Information for single game tickets will be available in the coming weeks.

All Lehigh home games will be streamed for free live on the Patriot League Network. In addition, all away league games will also be broadcast through the network.
