Early Deficit Troubles Lehigh at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A pair of first half tallies by Ohio State was too much to overcome as Lehigh fell 2-0 to the Buckeyes on Friday night in first road match of the season.
The Mountain Hawks (1-2) out-shot the Buckeyes (2-1) in both halves to finish with a 10-7 advantage for the game. Ohio State put the first tally on the board in the 19th minute following a Lehigh turnover. Joshua Jackson-Ketchup found pay dirt for a second time on the night when he hit the upper right corner from 30 yards out to give OSU a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute.
"We were our own worst enemy in the first half. We spotted them two goals in the first 45 minutes of play due to some mental lapses on our part, but those things happen and are correctable mistakes," said Dean Koski. "In the second half, we did everything we needed to do except score goals. I was very happy with how our guys responded in the second half and very proud of their effort. We out-shot a Big Ten team on the road, which says a lot about what kind of effort we put forth tonight and we're going to build on that moving forward."
Lehigh made a furious attempt to get on the board before halftime with two shots on goal in the 45th minute. Senior defender John Marc Charpentier had his header attempt stopped by OSU keeper Parker Siegfried. 21 seconds later, Siegfried stopped a strike from freshman Stevo Bednarsky to hold the Mountains Hawks scoreless in the first 45. Bednarsky led all players with three total shots on the night.
Ohio State got some help from its 12th man midway through the second half to turn away a Lehigh scoring threat. Junior forward Mark Forrest posed the threat as he connected on a header, but his attempt hit the post of the goal as Lehigh's misfortune continued.
Lehigh mustered up a corner and a shot in the closing minutes, but was unable to put a ball on target.
The Mountain Hawks return to action next Friday as their road stand continues with a trip to Cornell.
