BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks continue the second leg of their three-game road trip Friday when they head north to Ithaca, N.Y. to face Cornell in a non-league matchup. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start time and will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network ($).
Lehigh (1-2) enters Friday's contest on a two-game slide after starting the year with a season-opening win over Rider. Last Friday, LU suffered a 2-0 defeat at Ohio State in a contest where the Mountain Hawks out-shot the Buckeyes on their home turf. Lehigh holds a 35-27 shot advantage over its opponents so far this season and is averaging 2.7 more shots per game.
Cornell (0-1-1) opens its 2017 home slate with Friday's match after returning home from a season-opening 2-2 tie to University of the Incarnate Word and a 3-0 loss to Southern Methodist in Dallas, Texas last weekend. The Big Red posted a record of 1-14-2 during the 2016 season with its lone win coming against Patriot League champion Colgate and had to replace the holes left by the departure of 11 seniors and 14 total letter winners from year ago.
Mark Forrest remains Lehigh's leader in points (6) and goals (3) on the season, while Doyle Tuvesson has taken the lead in total shots (7). Forrest and Stevo Bednarsky are tied for second in total shots with six each.
George Prince returns as one of Cornell's top offensive threats from last year and is tied for the team lead this season in points (2) and goals (1) on three total shots. Walter Prince has the Big Red's other tally on the season.
Lehigh and Cornell are tied in the all-time series at 8-8-3 with the Mountain Hawks currently riding a four-game win streak over the Big Red. Lehigh emerged victorious in the last matchup between these two teams in 2015 with a 1-0 win at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The last meeting in Ithaca occurred in 2005, in which Lehigh also claimed a 1-0 victory.
