
Cohen wins Gold Medal at Maccabiah Games

JERUSALEM, Israel - Lehigh men's basketball rising sophomore Jordan Cohen ended the 2017 Maccabiah Games in strong fashion as he helped lead United States to a Gold Medal on Sunday as the Red, White and Blue defeated France, 75-67. In total, the U.S. went 6-0 in the games as Cohen averaged 6.2 points contest while serving as a strong defensive presence.

United States head coach Doug Gottlieb was impressed with Jordan's play, as explained in his postgame meeting with the team after the championship-game victory

"Jordan, you came in and made plays today," he said. "You asked me what I want from you and it's exactly what you did. You just came in, made plays, played great defense and when the ball found you, you took shots. It's all anybody could want."

The youngest player on the United States' open team, which consists of players ages 18-35, Cohen scored 37 points over the six games. In the Maccabiah Games opener, he scored seven points in an 89-70 win over France. Cohen followed with four points against Canada (78-69), eight vs. Belgium (110-32) and eight points vs. Mexico (91-29) to wrap up pool play. He then scored two points in an 92-67 semifinal victory over Israel before matching his Maccabiah Games high with eight points in the championship game victory vs. France.

Cohen averaged 5.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists during a strong freshman season at Lehigh. One highlight came in the home opener vs. Princeton as he scored 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting while adding six assists. Cohen was also named Patriot League Rookie of the Week in early February following a combined 37 points over three contests.

The Mountain Hawks finished the 2016-17 season with a 20-12 record, Lehigh's fourth time reaching 20 wins in the last eight seasons. Lehigh earned an impressive win over eventual Ivy League Champion Princeton while finishing 4-2 against eventual NCAA Tournament teams. The Mountain Hawks continue to put themselves in contention for a championship, reaching the title game for the fourth time in the last eight years.
