About Maccabi USA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Rising sophomores Jordan Cohen (men's basketball), Jeffrey Kirshenbaum (track and field) and junior Gordon Wolf (wrestling), are set to compete in the 20th World Maccabiah Games from July 4-18 in Israel. An international Jewish multi-sport event held every four years, the Maccabiah Games are the third largest sporting event in the world. Maccabi USA will bring more than 1,000 athletes who will join the 10,000 Jewish athletes from 80 countries participating in 43 different sports.

Cohen joins a men's basketball team coached by former Notre Dame and Oklahoma State point guard and current CBS Sports Network analyst Doug Gottlieb and including current and former college basketball players from around the country. Cohen enjoyed a strong freshman season, averaging 5.4 points and 2.1 rebounds while finishing third on the Mountain Hawks with 60 assists. Cohen shot 46.2 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three-point range. Included among his strong games was a 20-point, six-assist effort against Princeton while shooting 7-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range.

Kirshenbaum enjoyed a strong freshman season in cross country and track and field. In cross country, he competed at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. He enjoyed success at the Paul Short Run, finishing first on Lehigh and 126th overall in the Gold Race to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. This spring on the track, he won the 3,000m steeplechase at the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet (9:57.19), and ran season-best times of 9:41.08 in the steeplechase at the Bison Outdoor Classic, and 14:42.00 in the 5K at the IC4A Championships.

Wolf qualified for the NCAA Championships at 174 as a deferred freshman in 2015-16 and posted a win in the NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden. Last season, Wolf competed at 165, posting a 9-4 record and winning his only dual meet appearance. Wolf qualified for the Maccabiah Games team by way of his runner-up finish at the USA Maccabiah Team Trials in early April in Philadelphia. At the team trials, Wolf competed at 86 kg./189 lbs. and won four of his five matches in a round-robin format.

Since 1932, over 62,000 athletes have participated in the Maccabiah Games, in a celebration of Jewish Strength and Solidarity. Team USA's success is not only measured by the medals won, but by the impact that the Maccabiah experience had on their lives as well as the friendships they formed.
