BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three members of the Lehigh track and field teams earned weekly honors following their performances this past weekend. Senior Courtney Avery has been named the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week for the third straight week, sophomore Emre Soybas was named the Male Track Athlete of the Week and freshman Oluwajuwon Owolabi was named the Male Rookie of the Week.
Â
Avery highlighted her weekend at the Penn Relays on Saturday by defending her High Jump Championship of America title, setting a new school record and personal record with her high jump of 1.82 meters. In doing so, she became just the eighth female in Penn Relays Championship history to win multiple high jump titles, joining an impressive list that includes four former Olympians - Chaunte Howard (4x), Paula Girvin (2x), Najuma Fletcher and Dora Gyorffy. She will enter this weekend's Patriot League Championship meet as the No. 1 seed and is T-12th among NCAA East Region qualifiers.
Â
Soybas collects his first weekly award of the season after sprinting to a pair of wins at Saturday's Lehigh Games, and competing on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams at the Penn Relays. Soybas finished first out of 26 runners in the 200m dash and won the 400m dash where he finished first out of 29 runners in personal record time of 48.33 seconds. His 400m dash time ranks him fifth in the Patriot League entering this weekend's championships.
Â
Owolabi earns the first major weekly award of his career following his second triple jump victory of the outdoor season with a personal record jump of 14.05 meters. He followed that up with another PR of 6.76 meters to place fifth overall in the long jump. His triple jump ranks eighth in the Patriot League entering this weekend's championships, and his long jump is 13th.
Â
Lehigh will host the Patriot League Championships this Friday and Saturday at the Goodman Campus.
