Lehigh Caps Strong Weekend at Three Meets

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team had four individuals pick up wins while competing at multiple meets this weekend. Senior Daniel Reichenbach, along with sophomore Ryan Givens each won events at the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian, while seniors Alexander Fitzgerald (3K) and Lucas Warning (shot put) helped Lehigh place fifth out of 18 Division I schools at the Bison Outdoor Classic. Lehigh was also represented at the Mondschein Multi at Kutztown this week, where freshman Kyle Sult set a new meet record in the javelin.

"I am very impressed with our team this weekend," said head coach Matt Utesch. "It's very difficult to split the team up over three meets and expect the kind of results we achieved, especially coming off last weekend's dual meet. Both the men and women's teams had success on the track and in the field."

The Mountain Hawks had a strong team showing in the 3K, led by Fitzgerald who finished first overall out of 33 runners, breaking the tape in 8:32.14. His performance led the way for Lehigh who placed four runners overall in the top nine overall with Mitchell Daddario (PR-8:41.69) finishing fourth, Patrick Reilly (8:51.97) in seventh and Sean Burke (8:56.82) in ninth.

In the 5K (Invite), Matt Kravitz PR-ed 14:37.41, placing him 12th overall and one spot ahead of teammate Ryan Cooney (14:38.25). Joseph Inglis (9:28.72) set a new PR to pace the Mountain Hawks in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing 18th.

Michael Camera (11.29) led Lehigh with a 22nd place finish in the 100m dash. In the 400m, Emre Soybas (21st/49.78), James Clements (30th/50.02), and Christopher Del Rossi (55th/51.64) all set season-bests. Freshman Ryan Paradise set a new PR to lead the team with his 22nd place finish out of 142 runners in the 800m run. Clay Stabolepszy (1:55.49) took 35th while setting a PR of his own.

In the field events, Warning won the shot put for the third time this outdoor season, finishing 40 centimeters ahead of the second place finisher with a throw that measured 17.63m. Warning also set a new personal record of 50.16m with his fourth place throw in the discus. Over in the triple jump, Oluwajuwon Owolabi (13.53m) set a PR in 15th place.

Greyhound Invitational
Freshman Victor Yegon finished runner-up with a time of 9:49.11 in the 3,000m steeplechase. Freshman Bartlomeij Bancewicz placed 11th to lead the team in the 800m run, two spots ahead of Christopher Mascetti (2:00.05). Kyle Kirk (16:17.14) set a new PR while finishing 13th in the 5K.

In the field events, Christopher Foley competed at both Bucknell and Moravian this weekend, finishing fifth at the Greyhound Invite with a shot put of 15.05m. Sophomore Alexander Rodgers tallied a new PR of his own in eighth place, throwing 14.44m and Adam Freesman tallied a PR with his 12th place throw in the disucs (38.89m).

In the jumps, Reichenbach and Ryan Givens landed on the podium of the long jump with Reichenbach winning the event at 7.25m and Givens taking third with a personal-best jump of 7.10m. Reichenbach led the way for LU once again in third place of the triple jump at 14.40m, while Givens was able to take home the top prize by winning the high jump, leaping a season-best 2.05 meters.

Mondschein Multi
On Thursday and Friday, freshman Kyle Sult represented Lehigh at the Mondschein Multi at Kutztown University, where he placed 15th overall in the decathlon with 5,498 points. Sult highlighted the event by setting a new meet record 55.74m with his winning throw in the javelin. The mark also topped his former PR by over 2.5 meters and bested the previous meet record by over 1.5 meters.

Next up, Lehigh will take part in two meets next weekend, including the Virginia Challenge and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
