BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team will close out its fall schedule and will look to defend its 2016 title when the Mountain Hawks host the two-day, 36-hole Lehigh Invitational, beginning Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Â
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 6,012 yards from the ladies tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
Â
This will be the fourth and final event of the fall for the Mountain Hawks, who earned a second place finish at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational, a third place finish at the Navy Fall Invitational, and most recently, a fourth place finish at the Brown Bear Fall Invitational Oct. 15-16. Junior Aileen Jeong tied for fourth place to lead the Mountain Hawks at the tournament in Seekonk, Mass.
Â
Last year, Lehigh topped a nine-team field at its home tournament, with Jeong trying teammate Elizabeth McGarrigle for individual medalist honors.
Â
Lehigh's scoring team this weekend features Jeong, classmate Reagan Jahn, who won the Towson Tournament last month, senior Megan Moylan, sophomore Minuette Laessig and freshman Alexis Browne. Sophomore Rebecca Markunas and freshman Angela Ding will compete as individuals.
Â
This year's Lehigh Invitational features a seven-team field, with Central Connecticut State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hartford, Holy Cross, Monmouth and Saint Francis (Pa.).
Â
Lehigh will play with Hartford and CCSU with players going off the first tee beginning Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Monday's final round will also begin at 9:30 a.m. with players going off holes one and 10 based on the team standings.
