BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Eight days after opening the season on their home course, the Lehigh men's cross country team will head out to University Park for Penn State's Spiked Show Invitational on Saturday. The 5.2 mile men's race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., with the course running through the Penn State Blue/White Golf Courses.
The Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational is named in honor of the longtime Penn State men's cross country coach and USTCA hall of famer. The day's festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. with the women's college 6K run, followed by the men's college run at 10:45 a.m. Two 5K high school races will also take place, featuring the girls at 11:30 a.m. and the boy's race at 12:15 p.m.
The race will also serve as a preview of things to come for Lehigh's runners, as the course will also serve as the host of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on November 11.
At the Sept. 2 Lehigh Invitational, the Mountain Hawks opened up the season with a first place finish in the five-team invite on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. Lehigh was the only school to place five runners in the top 15 of the 70-finisher race, with John Tolbert leading the way for the Brown and White in sixth place overall. Brian Arita followed closely behind in seventh place, with Christopher Mascetti taking ninth overall, Ryan Grace crossing the line in 13th and Matt Kravitz finishing 15th.
Lehigh will continue its busy start to the season next weekend with the annual dual meet at rival Lafayette on September 17 at 10 a.m. in Easton, Pa.
