BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh University is set to host the 43rd annual Paul Short Run this Saturday at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The Paul Short run is one of the largest cross country meets in the nation with approximately 6,000 athletes from nearly 450 colleges and high schools competing this year. The day-long event gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with the men's open race and concludes with the girls' high school JV race at 5:45 p.m.

Paul Short will feature nine men's teams ranked in the latest Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll, including the Mountain Hawks who currently sit tied for their highest regional ranking in program history at No. 6.

The Mountain Hawks are looking to continue their strong start to the 2016 season. The team began the season with three meets in as many weeks, starting on Sept. 2 with the Lehigh Invitational on the Goodman Campus Course, where they took home first place out of five teams. On Sept. 10 at Penn State's Spiked Shoe Invitational, Lehigh turned in a solid fourth place finish in the 11-team field, finishing behind defending national champ Syracuse, second place Cornell and national No. 7 Georgetown. Lehigh finished ahead of regionally ranked foes Penn State and Saint Joseph's, and is slated to face both Georgetown and Saint Joe's once again at Paul Short this weekend.

Last time out on Sept. 17, Lehigh took down rival Lafayette by a perfect score of 15-50, marking the 18th consecutive year Lehigh has won in the rivalry series. Lehigh swept the top 16 spots in the race and had every one of their runners finish within 3.13 seconds of each other.

Lehigh has enjoyed three different front runners at the head of their pack through their first three meets so far this season. Junior John Tolbert took sixth place overall at the Lehigh Invite, while senior Alexander Fitzgerald took 15th overall at the Spiked Shoe Invite, and senior Jack Curran captured his first career win at the Lafayette dual.

"Penn State was a meet that we put on our schedule so we would be more ready for the start of the championship phase of the season, which to me starts with Paul Short," said head coach Todd Etters. "I think we are still going to be pumped up and ready to go, but hopefully in a more controlled manner than what we've had in the past. Hopefully they realize this is just a midseason race and the start of the important part, and not a be-all, end-all."
