Warning Concludes Season at First Round of NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior Lucas Warning completed the men's track and field season on Saturday evening at the First Round of the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Warning delivered a shot put of 17.46 meters in Saturday's prelims, which placed him 25th out of the 48 competitors, 13 spots shy of qualifying for June's NCAA Championships final round. The mark was his second-furthest throw of the outdoor season.

Warning's first career trip to the NCAA prelims caps what was a solid 2015-16 campaign for the Mertztown, Pa. native. Warning captured his first career Patriot League Championship earlier this month with his toss of 17.37 meters. His season-best qualifying shot put of 17.60m came in his win at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational on March 26 and he also won the shot put at the Lehigh Games (17.45m). Those three tosses stood to be the three best outdoor shot puts in the Patriot League this season. In total, he won the shot put at five different meets this season and also finished 13th at the Penn Relays. During the indoor season, he broke John Hill's 44 year old indoor shot put school record and finished with a season-best indoor heave of 17.62 meters. He was named a Second Team All-Patriot League after taking runner up at the indoor championships.

"Lucas has had an amazing career so far at Lehigh and all indications are that he will be back next year to relentlessly pursue John Hill's outdoor record," head coach Matt Utesch said. "He has set the tone in the throws group and will continue to do so. I am very proud of the way this young man competes. It is unfortunate that spectators only see him compete because he is driven in practice every day and to me that is inspirational and motivating."
