Mountain Hawks wrap-up non-league homestand with Saturday twinbill vs. UMBC

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On the heels of a doubleheader sweep of Princeton on Wednesday, Lehigh closes out its four-game non-league homestand on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks welcome UMBC to Leadership Park. First pitch for game one of Saturday's twinbill is set for 1 p.m.
Lehigh improved to 29-10 on the season with its sweep of Princeton. Junior Christine Campbell threw a one-hit shutout and sophomore Rachel Timberman drove in the only run as the Mountain Hawks took the opener 1-0. The Mountain Hawks trailed 1-0 and were hitless through four innings in game two before responding for five runs to take the lead. Lehigh eventually claimed the nightcap 7-4 despite being out-hit 9-3 by Princeton. Junior Vicky Lattanzio drove in two runs and senior Alexis Watanabe scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
The Mountain Hawks enter this weekend's action needing one victory to clinch their 16th straight 30-win season.
Campbell improved to 17-5 on the season with her third complete game shutout of the season, and lowered her season ERA to 2.50.
Lehigh had just eight hits in Wednesday's doubleheader with Timberman leading the way with two. Watanabe and senior Jessica Calvini both scored two runs Wednesday.
Senior Morgan Decker went 1-for-4 and drew three walks Wednesday. Her average sits at .432, while she set a new career high with 16 doubles. Decker continues to lead Lehigh with 32 RBIs, while Lattanzio reached 30 RBIs on Wednesday.
UMBC comes to town at 19-25 overall. The Retrievers won two out of three America East games at Hartford last weekend to improve to 3-8 in conference play. Bridget O'Malley leads UMBC with a .402 average while Kaelin Jackson and Carly Lesko have combined for 18 home runs 68 RBIs.
Jessica Holte has thrown the most innings for UMBC in the circle and owns a 10-10 record and 4.12 ERA. Four Retriever pitchers have thrown at least 40 innings this season.
The Lehigh-UMBC series is tied 4-4 with the Mountain Hawks posting two come-from-behind wins to claim a doubleheader last April in Baltimore, winning the first game 6-3 and the second 5-1 in 10 innings.
Following Saturday's doubleheader, Lehigh will hit the road for six crucial Patriot League games. The Mountain Hawks will play their make-up series at Boston University with a doubleheader Tuesday and a single game Wednesday before traveling to Bucknell for a three-game set April 30-May 1.
