BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team will take a brief break from Patriot League play as the Mountain Hawks begin a four-game non-conference homestand with a doubleheader against Princeton Wednesday at Leadership Park. The first pitch of the opening game is slated for 3 p.m.
Lehigh enters Wednesday's action with a 27-10 overall mark and are 8-1 in league play. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a key Patriot League series win at Army West Point. Senior Morgan Decker reached base four times and drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out, sixth-inning single as the Mountain Hawks claimed a 6-4 win in the rubber game of a three-game set on Sunday. Junior Christine Campbell came on in relief in the first inning and allowed just one run in seven innings of work to earn the victory. Campbell also earned the victory in Lehigh's 8-3 win in Saturday's series opener.
Senior MacKenzie Velasquez was named Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday after going 7-for-16 last week in five games with five RBIs. Velasquez was 4-for-4 with three RBIs in game one at Army.
Lehigh has won seven of its first eight games at Leadership Park this season, with the only loss coming last Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader against Manhattan.
The Mountain Hawks feature three of the Patriot League's top 10 hitters in terms of batting average, led by Decker, who leads the league at .439. Sophomore Katie Schultz ranks fifth at .379 while Velasquez is 10th at .356. Decker also leads the league in home runs (six) and RBIs (31).
Campbell and freshman Emily Sorem have anchored the pitching staff. Campbell owns a league-best 16 victories, while Sorem leads Lehigh with 85 strikeouts to go along with an 11-5 record. Sorem has a .01 point edge on Campbell in the ERA department (2.63 – 2.64).
Princeton has won seven of its last nine games to improve its mark to 14-22 overall. The Tigers took three of four games from Ivy League rival Penn over the weekend to improve to 7-5 in league play. Kaylee Grant anchors the Tiger offense with .350 batting average and team-high 35 hits, three home runs and 18 RBIs. Princeton has used five pitchers this season. Claire Klausner has thrown the most innings (73) and has the most strikeouts (54). Ashley La Guardia has a team-best six victories to go along with a 3.85 ERA.

Van Ackeren, a four-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Year and a member of the league's 25th anniversary team, is in her fourth season at Princeton.
Lehigh is 3-0 against Van Ackeren's Tigers with a doubleheader sweep in 2013 and a 7-6, 11-inning win last year in New Jersey. Princeton's visit to Bethlehem in 2014 was rained out.
Princeton leads the all-time series with a 30-16 mark against Lehigh but the Mountain Hawks have won the last five games in the series.
Due to technical issues Lehigh will no longer be able to broadcast Wednesday's doubleheader on the Patriot League Network. Live stats will be available for both games while Twitter updates will be available @Lehighsoftball.
