Lehigh earns 7-0 sweep at archrival Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win at Lafayette Monday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks claimed victories in every singles and doubles match. Lehigh improves to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in Patriot League play with the win, while Lafayette falls to 3-15 overall and 1-5 against league foes.
Juniors Ethan Bogard and Colin Nardella got the afternoon started with a 6-1 win at the third flight of doubles before senior Jeremy Kochman and junior Graham Lehman clinched the doubles point for Lehigh with a 6-2 win at the top flight. Freshman George Cooper and sophomore Jack Petersen helped Lehigh to the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory at the second flight.
Cooper opened singles action with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Lafayette's Chris Kim at No. 4 singles before Petersen cruised to a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win at the second flight. Bogard followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Matthew DeBenedetto at the sixth flight to clinch the match for the Mountain Hawks.
Nardella continued Lehigh's dominance with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles and freshman Bryant Born followed with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at the third flight. Kochman then secured the 7-0 sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Chris Matturri at the top flight of singles.
Lehigh will wrap up the regular season with an 11 a.m. Saturday match at Holy Cross before beginning preparations for next week's Patriot League Tournament to be played at the Mountain Hawks' home Ulrich Varsity Courts beginning April 28.
