Mountain Hawks picked third in women's golf preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a successful fall campaign, the Lehigh's women's golf team has been picked to finish third out six teams in the Patriot League's preseason poll announced Monday. Defending champion Boston University is slated to finish first in the league after collecting 10 of 12 possible first place votes. Richmond, an associate member of the league in women's golf, was selected to finish second in the league followed by Lehigh, Bucknell, Navy and Holy Cross.

Despite graduating key seniors Melanie Dickens, Kelly Moylan and Alyssa Scheyd in 2015, the Mountain Hawks were able to rely on their returning players as well as the addition of two new freshmen in a solid fall campaign.

Junior Elizabeth McGarrigle and freshman Aileen Jeong led the way for the Mountain Hawks in the fall.
Jeong had three top-15 finishes in the fall, highlighted by her eighth place finish at the Bucknell Invitational with a score of 231 (81-76-74). Also at the Bucknell Invitational, McGarrigle finished sixth with a score of 227 (81-76-74) to help guide the Mountain Hawks to a fourth place finish out of 14 teams. McGarrigle also posted a 226 (73-76-77) at the Delaware Invitational – good enough for another sixth place finish.

McGarrigle and Jeong were joined by senior Nicole Feierberg and freshman Reagan Jahn as some of Lehigh's top performers this fall. Feierberg's best performance this fall came at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational when the Highland Park, Ill. native finished tied for fifth place after scoring a 152 (72-73). Jahn's high point of the fall season came when she finished at 16th place in the Lehigh Invitational after shooting a 161 (81-80) and helping to propel the Mountain Hawks to a second place finish out of nine teams. Sophomores Megan Moylan and Casey Farmer played solid golf through the fall and will be important assets to the Mountain Hawks as they prepare to for the spring.

Lehigh will begin its 2016 spring season at the Lady Eaglecat Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. on March 14. The Mountain Hawks will play four spring tournaments, culminating with the Patriot League Championship April 23-24 at Bucknell University.
