BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second straight weekend, the Lehigh track and field teams will send athletes to compete in two meets on Friday and Saturday. A total of 13 Mountain Hawks will head to the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State, with the remainder of the team heading to the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The two-day Raleigh Relays kick off on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 5K. All Lehigh student-athletes will be competing on Friday only. Exactly 2,306 individual entries from over 100 schools and track clubs will make up the event. Live results will be available for the entire meet, which will also be streamed live on ESPN3 and Flotrack.
Down in Raleigh, Laura Barnes, Marissa Karl and Hannah Leskow will all compete in the 1500, while Elizabeth Weiler and Maura Henderson will both run the 5K. Weiler, the program's outdoor 5K record holder, will be competing for the first time since winning the Patriot League indoor 3,000m championship last month, and will be competing outdoors for the first time since 2014.
Barnes took part in the 800 and 1500 last weekend at the USF Bulls Invitational, while Leskow and Karl will race for the first time since the Patriot League Championships, where they helped capture the distance medley relay championship.
Ryan Cooney, Evan Hardy and Samuel Layding will also compete in the 5K on the men's side. Hardy competed in the 1500 last week at the Philadelphia College Classic, finishing 12th out of 34 and coming just 0.11 seconds short (4:06.92) of his PR. Cooney, who holds a 5K PR of 14:49.85 will be competing for the first time this outdoor season, along with Layding who will be making his collegiate outdoor debut.
John Tolbert will represent Lehigh in the 3,000m steeplechase. Tolbert competed in the 2,000m steeplechase for the first time last weekend in Philadelphia, taking fourth place in 6:21.19. He posted his best 3,000m steeplechase time of 9:25.98 in the 3,000 at last year's league championships.
The final event in Raleigh on Friday will be the 10K, where four runners - Sean Burke, Alexander Fitzgerald, Patrick Reilly and Evan Ward - will all race for the Brown and White. Burke turned in the best 10K time of his career at last year's Raleigh Relays (31:00.97), while the other three will all be running in the event for the first time.
The rest of the team will be at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational, which begins with the hammer throw on Friday, and all other events taking place throughout Saturday. Rider, Colgate, East Stroudsburg, Moravian and Muhlenberg will join the Leopards and Mountain Hawks at the meet. Live results will be available.
Last weekend at the Philly Classic, Ryan Givens grabbed second place in both the high jump and long jump, while Lucas warning grabbed runner up in the shot put. The women earned three individual wins from Kiana Wright (triple jump), Nia Baker (shot put) and Michaela Bubak (hammer throw).
